Stockholm – Why Sweden’s Capital is Europe’s New Home of Impact

Over the last few years, Stockholm investors have shown increasing willingness to plough money into the 'impact' startup scene, in companies that seek to generate financial returns while also creating a positive social or environmental impact.

There are two main categories of impact startups, those solving social challenges, such as poverty and famine, and those solving environmental challenges, such as climate warming and decarbonisation.

Gothenburg – The World’s Most Sustainable City

The Global Sustainability Index (GDS) voted Sweden’s second biggest city, Gothenburg, as the most sustainable city in the world four times in a row. As a result, this city of only 600,000 inhabitants drew international attention. It didn’t take long for the world’s largest broadcast news organization, the BBC, to highlight Gothenburg as one of Europe’s greenest cities, for example.

Here are a few of the reasons that Gothenburg is now so cited when it comes to sustainability:

  • The establishment of city Green Zones
  • Social sustainability: affordable housing and low unemployment rates
  • Changing the biggest port of the north to a ‘River City’

The 42nd edition of the Noordelijk Film Festival: faces of the North

From 9 to 13 November the 42nd edition of the Northern Film Festival will take place! Just like last year, the festival will appear in hybrid form, with an online program available in addition to the atmospheric film festival you’re familiar with. As always, we maintain our Nordic Focus, but in 2022 we want to pay even more attention to the diversity and richness of the northern film landscape. That’s why our slogan for this year is ‘Faces of the North’.

About the festival
The Noordelijk Film Festival is a film festival in Leeuwarden that generally takes place around the second weekend of November every year. With around 20 thousand visitors counted over five days, the festival is one of the largest regional film festivals in the Netherlands. In 2019 it celebrated its 40th anniversary with a special longer edition. From 1976 to 1988, the first ten editions took place under the name Fries Film Festival. Stadsschouwburg De Harmonie has served as the festival centre for almost all years. Additionally, film theatre Slieker Film (in the Fries Museum) and Pathé Leeuwarden are two of our festival locations. This year once more, we’re moving into the province with a programme that includes De Lawei in Drachten and De Koornbeurs in Franeker.

In this session, we bring together experts and stakeholders to explore the dynamic evolvements in Venture Capital, Technology and the various ways companies can become investment ready or boost their innovation through tech investments.

Funding is essential for the growth of startups and scaleups. It is what makes them able to compete on a global stage. What are the bottlenecks and challenges when finding (the right) investors and trying to accelerate growth as a start-up or scale-up? Making the right investments and introducing the right technology is of the essence for any companies trying to stay innovative. With the ever-increasing ways of investing in technology and innovations, there is a larger need for companies to strategize their use of capital.
