Additional News of Note

Semiconductor Research Corporation Visits Georgia Tech ECE
The Georgia Tech School of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) will be a significant contributor to overall success of the nation’s goal to increase domestic semiconductor production and solidify its microelectronics workforce as collaborative efforts by industry and government come into focus. The School’s established partnership with the Semiconductor Research Corporation, in particular, will be key to the country’s long-term semiconductor competitiveness.
Gaming for Electric Power Grids
Another VIP is tapping into the interactivity of video games to create more resilient power grids. It’s a newer project led by Dan Molzahn, assistant professor at the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering. His team of 19 undergraduates and master’s students is working to better design and operate electric power grids during cycles of natural disasters. They’re building a video game simulation that gives players a budget to invest in electric power grid structures like batteries and transmission lines. The software will test multiple natural disaster scenarios against the system to collect data on the grid’s resilience.

Awards

The International Microelectronics Assembly and Packaging Society (IMAPS) has recognized Sanketh Buggaveeti with the 2022 Emerging Leader Award. Buggaveeti is currently pursuing an online master’s degree in electrical and computer engineering at Georgia Tech.

Md Shariful Islam, a Ph.D. candidate in the Georgia Tech School of Electrical and Computer Engineering has been selected for the 2022 Graduate Student Scholarship from the IEEE Photonics Society (IPS). Each year, ten outstanding IPS student members from around the world are awarded the Graduate Student Scholarship. IEEE is the world's largest technical professional organization dedicated to the advancement of technology for the benefit of humanity.

Cynthia Wang and Tyler Lizzo placed first and second respectively in the Joint University Microelectronics Program (JUMP) Undergraduate Research Initiative (URI) Poster Competition at Semiconductor Research Corporation (SRC) TECHCON 2022.

Wang and Lizzo’s winning research projects are part of the Opportunity Research Scholars’ (ORS) program in the Georgia Tech School of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE). Through ORS, ECE undergraduate students work on a research project for two-consecutive semesters supervised by a Ph.D. mentor and faculty advisor.
