THANK YOU!
Thanks to all our student and parent volunteers that put in many hours over the course of the Halloween weekend to make this year's craft show a great success. Thanks also to our booster board for being there almost the entire weekend, and also to our President Melissa Pennuto for completing a very successful first show as our new Craft Show Chairperson!
Get Panda Express on Thursday any time during operating hours and mention that you're there to support the PCHS Band Fundraiser! Please note that this fundraiser is at 127th and Rt. 59 on the north end of town!

LIFE AFTER MARCHING BAND
So now that Marching Band is over (😭), is it just band during the school day??? No, of course not!!! There are a lot of different activities already starting for the rest of the year that are available to students and there are various selection processes for each group.
Madrigal Ensembles Starting Now
Ms. Mullard is in charge of the Madrigal groups, which perform Renaissance-Style music in one of three different performing groups (recorders, brass quintet, and flute ensemble). Because of the small number of students in these ensembles, they are filled in Wind Ensemble first due to the level of difficulty and musical exposure.
Jazz Bands I & II Starting Now
Mr. Vanderwall is in charge of the jazz bands, of which there are two. Students sign up and generally self-select their jazz band based on the level of difficulty and time commitment they're prepared to make. Jazz I (1) has set instrumentation of 5 Saxophones, 4 Trombones, 4 Trumpets, and a Rhythm Section of Piano, Guitar, Bass, Drums, and Vibraphone. If there are more students than available slots, we'll hold an audition to see who stays in Jazz I and who moves to Jazz II.
Jazz II (2) is a bit more open regarding numbers, but does maintain the same traditional jazz instrumentation as Jazz I. Jazz II is a great place for students in need of a smaller time commitment or who have less experience playing in a jazz setting!
Pep Band Starting Now
If you enjoyed playing during the stands at football games, Pep Band is for you! Anyone can join Pep Band, and the more people we have, the more fun it is for everyone. We'll play a combination of some of the short pep tags from the football season with more of a focus on full-length pop charts to play during stoppages in play and at halftime.
Solo & Ensemble Contest Starting Now
We're FINALLY bringing back Solo & Ensemble Contest this year on Saturday, February 18th, at Plainfield SOUTH High School. This is an opportunity for students to perform as individuals and/or in small groups to continue to challenge themselves above and beyond what is offered to them during their band classes. Solos are $15 (plus the cost of a piano accompanist if the piece requires it) and $8/member in an ensemble (each member pays $8), so a trio (3 players) would cost $24 total. The cost of participation is to pay the evaluators that are hired for the day to be able to provide students with ratings as well as written feedback. For more information and to register, please click here.
202 Indoor Percussion & Plainfield Winter Guard Starting Now
These groups are an extension of our marching activities in the form of district-wide cooperatives that rehearse at Plainfield Central, perform at local competitions, and finally perform at WGI World Championships in Dayton, Ohio in late April. Auditions are already underway for PWG, but they also have a JV team that is open to anyone looking to learn. 202IP auditions start on Sunday. Musical Pit Orchestra Starting in January
Each year, the necessary instrumentation for pit orchestra changes based on the show. That being said, the music for these shows is at a professional level and is not adjusted for younger students from what is played on stage in professional productions. Students in Wind Ensemble are still likely to need to work quite a bit to keep up with the demands of pit orchestra! The instrumentation of this group will be announced shortly following the announcement for the Spring Musical.
