Weekly Encouragement

Finding unity in the midst of differences.

According to Jesus we are to bring heaven to earth.  We pray for that to happen, and we are to live as those who are seated at the right hand of the Father, fully activated in His presence.  For some people this means that we are taking new ground, finding new wineskins for the Lord to use, and revealing the multi-faceted wisdom of God through new and powerful ways.  I believe this is a critical piece of the kingdom of God.  We need pioneers on the frontlines of creativity and dreaming with God!

For others, this living on the forefront of revelation is hard to understand, and for many seems to miss the simplicity of the gospel in the pursuit of the new thing.  I am not saying that’s true, just a perception.  These settler’s value the development of community and establishing order for the sake of safety and building.  Unfortunately, as pioneers and settlers try to find ways to come together, the things that become most apparent are the differences between the two.

When we look at the values that different mindsets carry in the kingdom of God, we must learn to honor the value each brings to the body of Christ.  Our character will determine the unity we are able to walk in.  Our honor for those we disagree with will often be the deciding factor for whether there is unity in the Body of Christ.

The enemy (Satan’s demonic forces) is looking for us to highlight our differences making them “do or die” issues and then creating division in the body.  If you isolate from the body, because of hurts and offenses, the enemy is happy you are by yourself with Jesus.  He knows that if you have removed yourself from the body for whatever reason (righteous justifications or not) you are less productive and not taking territory from the enemy.

Remember, unity comes with humility and laying down our personal agendas for what the Lord wants to do.  This can be challenging, and healthy conflict resolution steps should be taken.  If you have isolated from fellowship for any reason, whether an offense or a wineskin, ask the Holy Spirit to direct you to His resolution.  Often, He will have us do the scary thing, and not the easy, comfortable thing.  He is with you.  Go and be reconciled and begin to honor the differences in the body.
