Queensland Writers Centre’s annual national Adaptable program has returned for a fifth year of forging creative connections between the literary and screen communities.
Applications are open now for submissions of published and unpublished manuscripts across a wide variety of genres and formats, with successful applicants given the opportunity to pitch their work to leading Australian screen professionals at Gold Coast Film Festival in 2023.

Deborah Cass Prize for Writing Award Ceremony

Supporters and members of the public are warmly invited to join online for the eighth and final award ceremony of the Deborah Cass Prize, including a keynote speech from Alice Pung OAM, and presentation MC'd by Dr Andonis Piperoglou.
Hard As - Bryan Hartas Book Launch & Panel

A panel of people who worked with Bryan Hartas and supported his story-telling project will discuss his legacy and the importance of recording and sharing difficult stories by Forgotten Australians. QUT Literary Salon's final event of the year, from their monthly reading series featuring work from some of the university’s most talented creative writers.
Ruckus Brisbane - Grand Slam Final
When: 6:30pm, Wednesday 30 November
Where: Lefty's Music Hall, Caxton St, Petrie Terrace
Ruckus Brisbane's last poetry slam event of the year, with winners from each month of the competition battling it out to become the 2022 Grand Slam Champion. Poets each get two and a half minutes on the mic to perform poems, rap, sonnets, and original spoken word, with judging from the crowd.

Across October and November, Mocco Wollert has had columns (Memories, What's in a name) and poetry (If it hadn't rained that night, Ondine the Charolais, Kookaburra Bird, Autumn Love) published in Seniors’ Digest USA, Your Time Magazine, and Quadrant.
Terrie Ferman’s poem Anniversary Gifts will appear in Brushstrokes III, the anthology compiled from the 2022 Ros Spencer Poetry Contest conducted by WA Poets Inc.
Juanita Simmonds has been announced as the inaugural recipient of the Christina Boughen OAM Fellowship, part of State Library of Queensland's Queensland Memory Awards.

Annette Tyson has recently self-published her first novel, Garrow Head a historical novel based on the story of colonial artist John Glover. It is available at Bundaberg Book Boutique, Dymocks Bundaberg and Bundaberg Regional Art Gallery and can be borrowed from the Bundaberg Library.

Melbourne Theatre Company - Cybec Electric
Closes: 21 November
With the support of the Cybec Foundation, Melbourne Theatre Company is seeking writers with unproduced plays for a development phase and then showcase at a public reading, with actors presenting works-in-progress with the assistance of directors and dramaturgs.
GenreCon 2023: Short Story Competition
Applications open: 5 December - 24 January
Accepting submissions of genre fiction up to 1,000 words on the conference theme Forbidden Doors. The winning story will be published online, and announced with a special presentation and reading at the GenreCon 2023 Launch Night event.
black&write! Writing Fellowships
Applications open: 30 November - 31 January
black&write! offers two Fellowships annually for unpublished manuscripts by Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander writers. Successful applicants receive $10,000 and a publishing opportunity. Submissions of short stories, novels or series of poems accepted.

Australia Council for the Arts - Awards for Literature
Closes: 7 February
The Kathleen Mitchell Award is presented to an under-30 author of an outstanding published (or publication-accepted) novel or novella, to encourage advancement in their literary career. Recipient receives $15,000.
The Dal Stivens Award is presented to an under-30 author for a published (or publication-accepted) short story or essay between 3,000-10,000 words. Professionally edited self-published works are also eligible. Recipient receives $15,000.
The Marten Bequest Scholarships
Closes: 7 February
Scholarships of $50,000, providing financial support for young artists (under categories including acting, architecture, ballet, music, painting, poetry, prose, sculpture) to explore, study and develop artistic skills through travelling either interstate or overseas.
