Hi <<First Name>>,

The sun is setting at 4:30pm and election results are still pouring in, so we'll keep this one short and sweet. Check out some upcoming virtual and in person events coming up below -- Chicago folks - we got one tonight!

Warmly,
Alden + the DFA National Team

Events to Check Out

MAPPED-a-thon
Chicago, IL | Wednesday, November 9 (tonight!)

Design Trust Chicago and Design for America are thrilled to invite all of our friends throughout Chicago to a MAPPED-a-thon! MAPPED (Making a People's Pathway to Engage with Design) is a searchable database that includes projects at different scales in different categories: community spaces, placemaking interventions, public spaces, plans, neighborhood design guidelines, and toolkits. MAPPED users can quickly access budgets, partners, funders, technical information, and other project specifics that can help them better predict cost and concerns.

DFAers are invited to catalogue and share organizations and partners they've worked with, expanding access to others in the Network!

Community Design Series with Grace Kwon
Virtual Event | Monday, November 14 + 21

Join the DFA Network for a two-part lecture series on Community Design theory + practice with Grace Kwon, Senior Service Designer @ Spotify! Sense maker by trade, storyteller by heart, Grace has been uncovering business, brand, and consumer insights as an expert Facilitator, Design Researcher, and Strategist. Before joining Spotify, she brought her design thinking and co-creation smarts to help National Geographic reposition their brand narrative, coached national nonprofits on narrative change and storytelling with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, and led social innovation projects at organizations such as SAP and the United Nations through human-centered design.

Partner Highlights:
The Advocacy
Project

The Advocacy Project is seeking partners to help promote the work of several talented women in central Nepal who all lost close relatives during the conflict between 1996 and 2006.

Kushma, seen in the photo, is one of several artists who have told their stories through stitching and in the process developed a unique art form that could lend itself to different surfaces and usage. The team is looking to work with creative individuals or a team about how their artistic skills might be used more generally. We look on this as an economic and artistic opportunity.

We particularly like working with students and have deployed several
Peace Fellows
(graduate students) to volunteer with Kushma’s group since 2015.
