VANDALS STRIKE AGAIN -
SEE SOMETHING? SAY SOMETHING!

Once again, we are plagued by senseless acts of vandalism in our town.

It is disappointing to see damage done to the fencing and seating at the newly completed upgrade to Coronation Park.

Coronation Park was Dungog’s first fully accessible park and it was designed in consultation with the community and input from the local school children. They told us what they wanted in a playground and we built it.

Made possible by an LRCI funding grant of $275,000, ratepayers must now cover the cost of repair, which is expected to reach between $5,000 and $10,000. This will no doubt be a bitter pill for the community to swallow given the playground upgrade was funded by a community grant.

This is the third incident of vandalism at Coronation Park which is disappointing as the space was intended to celebrate inclusion, not exclusions as is its current state.

Residents are being reminded that if you see something, say something! Contact Dungog Police straight away and let’s catch these vandals before they destroy more of our town.

NATIONAL
RECYCLING WEEK

This week is National Recycling Week which explores the idea that Waste isn't Waste until it's Wasted.

While we know there are a lot of committed residents across the shire who are doing their bit, this week particularly we want you to think about waste as a resource; reconsider how we use, buy, and dispose of materials to keep them in circulation for as long as possible. Let’s also give time to think about ways we can avoid, reduce, reuse and recycle for a better future.

By simply placing materials that are recyclable or recoverable in the red lid general waste bin is a waste of resources. Rethinking and recovering our waste not only keeps valuable materials out of landfill, but it also benefits the environment by reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

We can all do our bit to keep our shire pristine, to plant the seeds of sustainability for generations to come.

Find out ways you can join the recycling movement and not waste your waste via the link here

DUNGOG SHOW -
THE WAIT IS OVER

Dungog Show has been a staple for 100 years. Recently uncovered were some images from the archives – this one pictured is from the 1987 Dungog Show Grand Parade. Not much has changed in the last 35 years including the scheduling of the Grand Parade. It is always a popular feature of the show, this year it will be held Saturday at 2pm.

The show kicks off Friday with the camp draft, school visit and junior judging, then a huge day on Saturday is planned with cattle judging, wood splitting, best dressed pet and more before an afternoon of racing – dachshunds, pigs, camels- plus heart racing demolition derby, motor cross display and a dog high jumping competition.  So much to see!

Check out dungogshow.com.au for more information.

MARTIN'S CREEK QUARRY:
HAVE YOUR SAY

It’s not too late to have your say on the proposed development at Martin’s Creek Quarry, with submissions closing at 5pm on 15 Tuesday November.

Also, if you missed out on attending the IPC hearing earlier this week, more information, including the transcripts from the hearing can be found on the IPC website.

REMINDER:
BE A RESPONSIBLE PET OWNER

Council is reminding residents to keep their dogs safe and secure after a recent increase in roaming dog issues.

We know we have mentioned this before, but it seems the message is just not getting through to some pet owners.

While we know the majority of pet owners do the right thing, sadly not everyone gets a gold star - unlike Wally (pictured here), who is secured in his yard when his owners aren't home and wears a lead whenever he is out.

Council received 35 reports of dogs roaming between July and October this year. Nine of the 35 reports were dog attacks.

If you aren’t doing the right thing as owners, fines can range from $220 to $1300 for offences where dogs attack a person or animal.

Remember both dogs and cats are required to be microchipped and lifetime registered, and if a dog is found wandering on the street with an out-of-date microchip or no microchip at all, the animal will be impounded immediately.

THE SHIRE TRIFECTA - STREET PARTY,  RIVER FESTIVAL AND COUNTRY CARNIVAL

Whatever plans you have made for the weekend of 25-27 November, cancel them! Dungog Shire will be abuzz you won’t want to miss a thing.

Friday night there’s the Starry Starry Night Street Party from 4pm and into the evening. Let’s take the moment to enjoy our town, its producers and the street party that’s a little bit carnivale and a whole lot of festive fun.

With Christmas just around the corner, Dowling Street shops will be opened to encourage you to see what they have for your shopping needs. There will also be entertainment, and activities for the whole family including (everyone’s favourite) venomous snake displays, whip cracking, jumping castles, a delectable food and wine fair, music and entertainment, face painting, food, stalls and too much more to mention.

For the revellers, you can party on afterwards at the 'after 5 venues ' for dinner and more entertainment. The event is brought to you by Dungog District Chamber of Commerce. More info can be found here.

On Saturday (26 November) head over to Clarence Town for the Williams River Festival from 4pm with stalls, music, rides and more family fun.

Then on Sunday (27 November) check out the Torryburn Stud Vacy Village Country Carnival. A throwback to the fairs of old, there will be wood chopping, dog races, working dog displays and more.
