How to Install Trailer Lights in Under 5 Minutes

This Issue: Motion Sensors, Black Friday Sale on Now

Trailer lights have hardly changed in 100 years; the wiring is time-consuming to install and not very reliable. Speedy Trailer Lights™ are wireless LED trailer lights with some pretty amazing sensor technology, for boat trailers, utility trailers and camper trailers.

How does this technology work? The SailTimer Wind Instrument™ uses one Inertial Motion Unit (IMU) with a gyro and accelerometer, but Speedy Trailer Lights use two of these sensors. The 8-second YouTube clip above shows one on the turn signal and one on the brake pedal. The same digital gyroscope and accelerometer used for orientation in advanced aircraft.

The motion sensors detect movement of the car as it goes over bumps, around corners, up hills. Motion of the vehicle activates both sensors. But when there is movement on one axis like the turn signal, that is detected by only one sensor (see graph below) which triggers the lights to go on accordingly.

Features
These are NOT magnetic temporary tow lights that could fall off. Ours securely attach with stainless steel bolts into the molded case for use at highway speeds. These cannot bounce off, guaranteed.

The tail lights include a license plate LED and holder. Accessories include amber side marker lights, and 4- to 7-pin adapter.

There is a carbon-fiber battery pack inside the left and right lights, with the same type of rechargeable lithium battery cells used in laptops and electric cars. The replaceable battery pack provides the most power on the market (7,000 mAh). That gives you the longest time between recharging — possibly all summer, depending on the number of trips.

There is an LED indicator for battery level in the vehicle. Unlike wired lights, there is also an LED in the vehicle that can indicate trailer lights on or not working.

Just mount the sensors in your vehicle and attach the wireless tail lights in minutes. No cutting wires in the back of your vehicle. No wires to install under the trailer. They even come with optional wing nuts to attach with no tools. Instead of hours trying to get trailer lights wired correctly, you could already be there, enjoying the outdoors.
