DUT TO HOST A TWO-DAY INTERNATIONAL FRAUD AND CORRUPTION RISK CONFERENCE

The Durban University of Technology (DUT) will host a two-day International Fraud and Corruption Risk Conference at the Coastlands Musgrave Hotel on Monday, 14 November 2022 and Tuesday, 15 November 2022. The theme of the conference is: “Reshaping the Quality of Conversations, Deepening the Sense of Accountability, in Re-tilting the Socioeconomic Landscape.”

According to the DUT Chief Risk Officer, Mr Sikhuthali Nyangintsimbi, the University has an exciting programme lined up for the conference. He indicated that on day one, amongst the key speakers is the Chairperson of KPMG South Africa, Professor Wiseman Nkuhlu, who will share how KPMG South Africa perhaps nearly collapsed in the last few years and how they managed to turn it around.

DUT DATA DAY SHOWCASES HOW DUT STAFF USE DATA AT THE INSTITUTION TO ACHIEVE ENVISION2030

Last week, the Siyaphumelela project based at the Centre for Excellence in Learning and Teaching (CELT) hosted its annual DUT Data Day which provides an opportunity for the DUT community to learn about various types of data at the university. Now in its fourth year, DUT Data Day showcases and celebrates how DUT staff use data to inform decision-making and action that move the university closer to achieving the strategic objectives in ENVISION2030. This year, the event was held over three days.

Dr Koo Parker, Siyaphumelela Institutional Researcher and the event organiser, explained that the Data Day theme, which is Knowing – Doing – Impacting – Transforming, is aligned to the Siyaphumelela (We succeed) project goal of building, and supporting a data (or evidence) led culture of decision making at the University.

DUT HOSTS MEDIA DAY FOR EDITORS AND JOURNALISTS

The Communications team at the Durban University of Technology (DUT) hosted the DUT Media Day luncheon at the Riverside Hotel Business Centre on Friday, 04 November 2022.

The aim of the event was to meet with journalists and editors, to discuss the university’s ENVISION2030 strategy, to introduce the media to the recently launched DUT tagline (Creative. Distinctive. Impactful.) and to provide insight into the university’s plans for the decade ahead.

DUT TENNIS TEAM WINS THE OPEN MEN’S DOUBLES LEAGUE 2022, A FIRST TIME WIN FOR DUT!

Flying the sporting flag high are the dynamic members of the Durban University of Technology (DUT) tennis team, who have won the recent Open Men’s Doubles League 2022 for the first time for DUT. DUT entered the Open Men’s Doubles League, which is in the format that allows staff and students to play alongside each other. The Open Men’s Doubles League had five other teams in this division, which included Umhlanga TC, Glen Ashley TC, Durban North TC, La Lucia TC and Cowies Hill TC. Since the DUT tennis team had never played league tennis previously, they had to start in Division 5. DUT’s first tennis pairing team in the league, S’fundo Mthembu and Keenan Pillay, spoke of their dynamic experience.

DUT WOW CAREER FAIR, A GREAT SUCCESS!

The Durban University of Technology (DUT) students came out in their numbers to the two-day World of Work (WoW) Career Fair which recently took place at the Ritson Campus.

The WoW Career Fair was hosted by the University’s Co-Operative Education. The aim of hosting such an event was to offer DUT students an opportunity to interact with industry stakeholders.

The WoW also served as a platform where students were able to have face to face interactions with companies and obtain more information on job opportunities. Various companies in sectors ranging from retail, municipalities, government, Sector Education and Training Authorities (SETAs), SMME’s and engineering exhibited at the event.

DUT LIBRARY COMMEMORATES INTERNATIONAL OPEN ACCESS WEEK

The Durban University of Technology (DUT) Library commemorated the International Open Access Week with colourful and creative displays, a public lecture, and the publishing and launch of an open-access book by HELTASA via the DUT Open Monograph Press platform.

Open Access (OA) week was celebrated in South Africa and globally from 24 to 30 October 2022. The International OA community celebrates this momentous week to encourage libraries, researchers, and institutions to deliberate and tackle critical issues about open access. The DUT public lecture, hosted by the library, was held virtually via Microsoft Teams on Wednesday, 26 October 2022 with Mr Romeo Matumba, Librarian: Marketing and Communication directing this exciting and intellectually stimulating event.
