KIT December 2022

Dear reader,

A very warm welcome to December's KIT.

Some good news: the church clock at Fladbury was restarted today (thank you Anthony Palmer). We're one step closer to the tower re-opening.

Wherever you live, thank you for helping make our communities thrive.

I wish you, your friends and your families the very best of the season.

John Powell

Warm Space

Tuesday 29th November, 10.30am-3pm

Helen Jones writes:

Fladbury Social Club will be open on Tuesday 29th November from 10.30am-3pm creating a 'Warm Space'.

As fuel prices soar the idea is that anyone can come along and share the warm, have a cup of tea/coffee/biscuit or soup/roll for lunch or just come for a chat, read the paper, watch TV, or work.

The first Warm Space is an invitation to come along and see what it's all about.

Anyone interested in volunteering to help please also come along. This community initiative needs the village's support.

Anyone who would like some warmth and company – we'd love to see you on 29th November.

Christmas Giving

Jane Bugg writes:

Hearing of so many needs at the moment, I contacted one or two local organisations to find out how they are helping as we all prepare for Christmas. If you want to discuss, or need to know more, please phone the numbers given or ring me, Jane, on 860531, email pjbugg@btinternet.com.

Evesham Vale Welcomes Refugees

https://evwr.wordpress.com

There is a clothing hub in Riverside on Wednesdays from 3.30-5.30pm and on Saturdays from 10.30am-12.30pm. They provide free clothing for all refugees and asylum seekers and welcome warm clothing for winter, for children (but not babies as they have masses), and young men and women. They also need winter clothes and shoes for men. They continue "We have 63 asylum seekers in the Evesham hotel that we look after, and that includes 5 families with children of all ages. We are also asking for donations for Xmas gifts. And more volunteers! Many thanks for thinking of us (or them!)". For more information, please email evwrinfo@gmail.com or phone the co-ordinator, Ros Gowers, on 07547 260309.

The Maggs Centre in Worcester

https://www.maggsdaycentre.co.uk

This is a Day Centre for the homeless – tel: 01905 25027. They receive clothing at 59-60 The Tything, Worcester, from 9am-12noon on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

Caring Hands in Evesham

https://www.chands.org.uk

They are overloaded with clothes at present but do welcome Christmas treats for food bags – mince pies, chocolate, etc – but must be non-perishable. They can be taken to the foodbank at the top end of the Waitrose car park in Evesham. It is called The Lighthouse and is a modern building with black metal gates. It is open to receive gifts Monday-Thursday 12noon-2pm and Friday 3.30-5.30pm.

Pershore Foodbank

https://pershore.foodbank.org.uk

Thank you everyone who gave so generously at Harvest time and everyone who continues to support Pershore foodbank in these difficult times. The only products we have lots of are tinned baked beans and dried pasta at this time. We are always pleased to receive any donation, however small, of a wide range of tinned and dried food. We are particularly in need of tinned meat, tinned fish, instant mash, tinned veg, custard, and rice pudding. Sponge puddings are a welcome extra in winter. Thank you once again for your support - our families are very grateful. Christine Farrell 861689.

Fladbury Festive Five

Sunday January 8th 2023

Louise Bugg writes:

A 5 mile multi-terrain course, mainly off-road, along the banks of the River Avon, through Fladbury Village. This run is organised by the Friends of Fladbury community group. All the profits from the event will go to Friends of Fladbury and Worcestershire Breast Unit Haven.

Click here to enter if you'd like to take part: https://www.stuweb.co.uk/race/30j.

Entries are limited to 150 and we have already had 103 entries! [and going fast!, Ed.]

If you do not want to run then there are plenty of ways you can help out:

  • make a cake - the runners get free cake after their run!
  • offer to marshal - we need people to ensure our runners are safe along the route;
  • donate a spot prize - not everyone can win so we like to have some spot prizes all runners have a chance of winning;
  • sponsor the race - would you like your company name on the race numbers and some publicity for supporting a local event?

Please contact Louise on 07968 252847 or louisejanebugg@gmail.com.

Charities

Pershore Foodbank

Please consider this EMERGENCY APPEAL. For the first time ever, the need for tinned food, toiletries, UHT milk, and basic cleaning materials has outstripped the number of donations received.
Thank you for all you are already doing and, if you can give again, please remember there are collection boxes in Fladbury, Charlton and Cropthorne churches, and at the new Deli/Brunch Coffee Shop at Wyre Piddle.
Another way to help is to set up a Standing Order - a simple and consistent way to support our local foodbank in Pershore.
Details: sort code 20-98-61. Account number 50714356.
Citizens Advice is also available to signpost clients every Friday at the foodbank at St Andrew's Centre, Pershore. The need to help so many families in our local villages really is vital to get them through this winter. Thank you.
