Young Voters Turned Out for Midterms!
And they made a difference.
 
Mega thanks to Reece Ellis and Claire Shackleford for leading a great post-midterms discussion with a group of soon-to-be voters last Wednesday via Zoom. With timely graphs and interesting personal stories, they covered results and too-close-to call elections in an hour that flew by quickly. Students had many questions and comments, including a few Reece and Claire didn't get to in our short time. For students who have more to say and ask about last week's election, consider signing up for our roundtable discussion on Saturday, Dec. 10 at Oak Bend Library from 1:00 pm until 3:00 pm. One of many topics on the list to talk about that afternoon will be the power of every single vote in a democracy.
HS Model UN Sessions A & B are this Saturday!
Are you ready?
A delegate shares his elevator pitch last November.
(Masks will be optional for upcoming MUN dates.)
We know delegates are busy researching their countries and preparing for their upcoming Model UN sessions. Important additional steps to remember:
  • Every delegate, even if sharing a country, must sign up for Model UN participation:
    Click here to reach the Model UN signup form.
  • For preparation purposes, the sign up for this Saturday's sessions will close at 4:00 pm on Thursday.
  • Begin researching global problems and drafting resolutions. There are a lot of helpful resources on the Civitas website for writing resolutions.
  • Submit final resolutions via email by noon the Wednesday before your Model UN session, which is TOMORROW FOR SESSIONS A & B! Email them to Stephanie: gavinstephanie@gmail.com.
  • As resolutions come in, you can read them in advance on the Civitas website. Click here to reach them.

Every school year Civitas likes to provide opportunity for students from all over St. Louis and beyond to gather and talk about whatever is on their minds. We had a great discussion in September that ended with several topic suggestions uncovered because we ran out of time, including LGBTQ+ rights and income inequality in the St. Louis area and beyond. So we've scheduled a "Part 2" at Oak Bend Library on Saturday, December 10 from 1:00 pm until 3:00 pm to continue the dialogue. Join us for this fun afternoon. We'll have snacks and beverages.
