Navigating the holidays after losing a spouse
As the holidays move into high gear, widows often experience a range of strong emotions. The sights and sounds of the holiday season can trigger bittersweet memories. It’s common, when you have lost a spouse, to feel left out when surrounded by media images of happy couples. When your life partner is no longer with you, this often produces feelings of anger, sadness, and confusion.

After a loved one dies, red tape adds to the grief
In quick succession last spring, my family experienced three wrenching deaths: My brother-in-law died of a late-diagnosed cancer, my husband, Scott, died of a different late-diagnosed cancer and my mother died at age 100.
The last thing you want to deal with when you’re wrapped up in grief is red tape. It’s frustrating and exhausting and emotionally crushing. And yet it is unavoidable.

The holidays - How to navigate traditions
Spoiler alert: I don’t have the answers to this one yet. Of the zillion things I loved about Chuck near or even at the top of that list was how he embraced my family and our traditions. Last year’s holidays are a blur and we are forging ahead this year as Chuck wanted us to - we will stuff the turkey with oyster dressing & the family parties at the farm are a go.
