Collection for Veterans - 10/29/22 - 11/13/22
We are collecting items for the long-term patients at the Palo Alto Veteran’s Hospital. Some of the patients do not have family or friends in the area to buy them basic items and they sometimes arrive without anything.  We will be collecting:

  • underwear,
  • undershirts,
  • sweatshirts,
  • sweatpants,
  • baseball caps
  • Sizes L and XL are needed
All items must be new and the underwear must be in unopened packages. This is a wonderful way to remember our veterans and to say “thank you” for their service.  Please mark your donations “for vets” and place them in the wooden boxes at the entrances of the church. We thank you for your support.
PRAYER SHAWL MINISTRY

The Prayer Shawl Ministry continues to make new shawls and lap blankets monthly. Our mission is to provide hope, comfort, and healing. The shawls are made with many prayers and loving thoughts attached. It is a unique way of reaching out to the community in a very special way and is much appreciated by the people who need to be comforted.

We are also making pocket size prayer shawls!  They fit in your pocket or purse and have the same loving thoughts and prayers attached to them and are blessed by one of the priests.

Do you know someone that needs the comfort of a shawl or lap blanket? Please contact us and we can arrange a pick-up time or delivery. If you would like to join our ministry or have any questions please contact Rose Mary Becker at wpbecker@att.net or call 650 930-0044.

SAINTS IN THE CITY AWARD

Every year, the Diocese of San Jose hosts an event called, Saints In The City, which shines a spotlight and honors high school students from different parishes and schools across the Diocese, whose exemplary way of engaging with the community speaks strongly of lived discipleship.

Diane Lue, from our Parish, was recognized with the Saint Francis of Assisi Award. Diane serves as an important teen in our Parish. She is part of our Youth Ministry leadership team, a music minister in our Church band, as well as serving on our Vacation Bible School CORE youth leadership team. She strives to bring youth into our church by joining every volunteer and leadership opportunity that comes her way while balancing an intense academic schedule. Congratulations Diane!

After Diane received her award, she said that John Kellett, who coordinates our Sunday 5pm Mass Youth Band, opened up a new world for her as she began participating in music, which allowed her to find her place in helping out as a teen at mass.

Fr. Brendan said that, "Diane is an inspirational young adult. Since I have been at Saint Simon, she has consistently asked how she can help. She is an inspiration to me and an example to others about how to get involved and give back, especially for young people".
