Elizabeth, Norm & Cliff!
Hi Norm's Friend!

It has been a whirlwind few months for me, but the election is over and Senator Sollman is heading back to Salem! I learned a lot of things running this campaign. It's the third campaign I've managed and my first partisan race, which was more different than I expected. So today, I wanted to share 3 Lessons From This Election Cycle

1. Negativity Doesn't Work

I know we all know this in theory, but the negative ads and mailers started in August and NEVER let up. The world is tired and angry and negative isn't working. Make sure in your business and messaging you're focusing on all the great things you've done, not the negative of the "opponent" - you'd be surprised how much people appreciate the positive.

2. Relational Work Matters

Yup, we're talking networking. Any time I was at a campaign event or out canvassing, we continued to hear that the negative ads weren't working, AND getting great questions about the work she's done and the work she continues to do. Getting out and talking to your constituents (clients/prospects) is an important part of the work to really learn what THEY need, not what YOU want.

3. Choose Your Candidate Wisely

Just because I can run a successful campaign doesn't mean I'm going to run any campaign. I do the same thing in my business. Trust your gut and know if this candidate/client is the right fit for you. When I did the Emerge program we talked a LOT about the right race at the right time. The same goes for business, is this the right client/project/next step for me at this time?

Whenever I talk to people about the work I do at Yellow Dog Consulting and the work I do on campaigns, I talk about how similar they are. Instead of marketing a small business, I'm marketing a person who I believe will do good in their world. Make sure in your business you're working with people who challenge and help you grow, not hold you back.

Cheers!
Elizabeth, Norm & Cliff!

From the Blog

Norm & Cliff

I mean, who among us hasn't dressed up as Chewbacca for Halloween to match your dogs Han Solo costume? My good friend Katie (see here as Princess Leia obviously) found the Han Solo costume for Norm, AND a fantastic Ahsoka Tano costume for Cliff. Cliff thought the head piece was a chew toy so it stayed on for all of 7 seconds. Yes, these were DEMANDED to be removed immediately after pictures were taken.
