Mystery Invites Relationship
The image above comes from my trip to Austin one year ago. On a local hike there, I saw beauty in the way the water's surface reflected the light while hinting at the depths below. I also liked how the rope swing created a line that transcended both planes, creating a visual and literal connection between what looks like two worlds. I was reminded of this picture and the way mystery holds depth when I was talking with some friends from Makers and Mystics this week. I shared a powerful thought on the subject:

Mystery invites relationship.

This idea is timely as we're in the midst of the 20 Days of Gratitude, where we push into 20 mysteries. Plus today, I have the opportunity to lead an entire day on creativity at a conference of church leaders. I'll be sharing on how creativity can empower us in what we are called to do and how it connects us with God. One of the interesting things about creativity is that it opens us up to mystery. We don't always know where creativity will lead us, but it can be so fun and enriching to explore.

When something is a mystery, we can (if we choose) dive below the surface and explore the depths. That's why I love to bring and awaken creativity in spaces and communities of faith. It can open us up to the mysteries of our faith and invite us to move into deeper relationship with God. If we have all the answers, we don't need to dive below the surface. But wherever we encounter the mysteries of God, we're invited to pursue more.
