CNA UPDATES

This week, the Living Green in Creston committee was joined by a special guest who's helping to make Grand Rapids more sustainable and equitable.

Peter Skornia, President of Bazzani Building. Co, joined committee members at CNA on Tuesday evening to highlight Bazzani’s successes, discuss how to make lower income homes more energy efficient, and recommend projects in Creston.

One of Bazzani's successful projects sits right down the road from Creston - originally constructed as a warehouse, 730 Leonard Street NW (pictured above) was an under-utilized, largely vacant building on the northwest side of Grand Rapids. Bazzani Building. Co converted the solid brick building into 10 studio and 8 one-bedroom apartments, with 3,698 sf of dividable retail space.

Thanks to the support of Black Cat Bodega, CNA continues to serve the Creston Neighborhood through resources, events, community building, & more!

New to the Creston Neighborhood, Black Cat Bodega sits off Plainfield in the Cheshire Business District near Fat Boy Burgers. Lorin only opened Black Cat Bodega at the end of September, but the shop has already become a Creston favorite. Mystical oddities, classic vinyl records, stickers, incense, tarot cards, and more, can be found scattered throughout the gothic-cottage styled shop. And as if you needed another reason to stop in Black Cat Bodega, all of the shops imported goods are ethically sourced.

Don't forget to stop by Black Cat Bodega on December 8th from 4-8pm during Lights On Creston to win prizes, try some delicious Yule inspired treats, and find all the stocking stuffers you'll need this holiday season.

COMMUNITY NEWS & RESOURCES

REMINDER:

Now that we've finally seen the first snow of the season, don't forget to park on the correct side of the street to ensure that plows can get through to keep our roads clear!

Last Wednesday, the city held a groundbreaking ceremony for improvements to the historic building at Veterans Memorial Park (22 Sheldon Ave. NE).

Plans for the building include a new HAS HEART coffee shop and veteran-focused creative organization. The project is funded in partnership with the City’s Parks and Recreation department and other private philanthropic funds. Madcap Coffee is serving as supplier and consultant for the coffee shop project.

HAS HEART is a Michigan-based nonprofit founded by Navy Seabee veteran Michael Hyacinthe and designer Tyler Way with the mission to bring their communities together through the power of art, design, and fashion. The HAS HEART coffee shop will provide a space for veterans to have therapeutic, creative outlets by working with local creatives. The goal is to create a better channel of communication with the civilian population for veterans’ stories to be shared and understood.
