Monthly Web Accessibility Discussion Group Starting Thursday, November 17th at 6:30 p.m.
Benjamin Gray, web accessibility specialist, will host a Web Accessibility Discussion Group on the third Thursday night of each month, from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. starting November 17, 2022 and going through April 20, 2023.
The program will take place in the Center for Accessibility at the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library, with an option to attend over Zoom.
Starting with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG), we'll build an understanding of Web accessibility from the ground up! WCAG are a set of rules and suggestions about how to make the web more accessible to people with disabilities. They are part of a series of web accessibility guidelines published by the Web Accessibility Initiative of the World Wide Web Consortium, the main international standards organization for the Internet.
The discussion will allow us to gain an understanding of the general essence or purpose of the WCAG, how to navigate and interpret them, and why good HTML is such an important part of it (HTML is the basic language that the web is written in). We'll also include other topics like PDF accessibility and accessibility testing.
Join us for our first discussion, either in-person or virtually!
*Automatic captioning will be provided in the Zoom room
