Java & Jazz - Quantum Mechanics
AMHERST GLEBE ARTS RESPONSE (AGAR) AND SECOND STAGE AMHERST PRESENT THE NEXT AMHERST JAVA AND JAZZ,   "THE QUANTUM MECHANICS IN JAZZVE JAZZ – BROTHERS OF THE BEAN”
(Coffeehouse Music, Stories, and Trivia)

The Quantum Mechanics are Ed Mikenas on console steel guitar and vocals, Worth Proffitt on drums, and Andy Aschbacher on bass.

"From the very beginning of their relationship, coffee and humans have done much to inspire and nourish the creative aspect of life...and coffee houses became one of the first community-oriented spaces for people to meet, experience a variety of intellectual pursuits, and listen to the newest music of the time. The Quantum Mechanics have played a similar role with the advent of the “Java and Jazz” venue at Second Stage. Each of their offerings has focused on various aspects of coffee and its relation to Jazz. For this performance, they will be brewing up a cup of deep musical goodness, with roots in the “Great Depression,” inserting double helpings of Blues and BeBop, and adding dollops of original tunes all along the way."

Spotlight on Local Art
"I joined the Amherst Art Society where I was introduced to other mediums. They advised and guided me in exploring them. It was an honor to have the first public show of my work with the Society at my alma mater, Sweet Briar College. Creativity’s gift is a continuing marvel. I hope the viewer finds as much joy in my artwork as it has brought me.

Annual Giving to Second Stage
A donation to the Second Stage annual fund allows us to continue offering a gathering place to inspire creativity and community. It enables us to provide a venue for art, music, film, a farm and artisan market, and much more.

Beyond these cultural activities - not to mention Baine's coffee shop and bookstore - Second Stage also houses a reliable workspace for local artists and entrepreneurs.
See why they say Second Stage is worthy of your support.
A donation to Second Stage provides space for your neighbors who are small business owners.

Hey, Amherst! My name is Taylor James, a local licensed midwife providing homebirth services to our area. I'm passionate about providing holistic and individualized care to my clients through the midwifery model of care.

Just a little about me; I am an Amherst county native, and my heritage is a big part of my identity. Appalachian culture is rich with stories, art, and community - a way of living that is still cherished among many. Midwifery is very much so part of that history. My grandfather tells stories of his mother helping the local midwife who would ride horses to births across the hills of Piney River. What a beautiful reason to reclaim birth in our current-day Amherst!

My practice has found a cozy home inside of Second Stage. The community there has so brilliantly shaped this space to bring our town art, music, and holistic health.

I'd love to answer any questions about homebirth and midwifery care. You can call and schedule a consultation for more information."

We have other ways that you can show your support as well. If you've seen the gorgeous landscaping here at Second Stage, you may know we have Donna Meeks to thank for that. In true Donna spirit, a Music Scholarship Fund has been created to bring music to Amherst. Please consider donating in her memory.

Donna was a giver.
We marveled at the exceptionally beautiful grounds that she nurtured in our neighborhoods and on the Sweet Briar campus.
Donna’s gift.
We reveled in her ever-positive approach to life.
Donna’s gift.
We admired her love of people and their unique talents.
Donna’s gift.
We wished for her musical talents, her clear voice, her sure hand on the instrument.
Donna’s gift.
We were ever grateful that she believed in the mission of building a creative community at Second Stage.
Donna's gift.
We delighted watching her in the audience at many musical evenings.
Donna’s gift.
We appreciated her collegial approach to design, installation, and upkeep of the Osinga Memorial Gardens.
Donna’s gift.
Toward the end of her life, she didn’t waiver. She accepted the reality of her worsening condition with the grace and good spirit we had come to admire and hope to emulate.
Donna’s gift.
Thank you, Donna.
