Charles Schulz, "Peanuts"

Welcome, Music Munchers!

This week's piece to munch on is Beethoven's Sonata for Horn and Piano - performed by Dennis Brain and Denis Matthews. Born in 1921, Brain is considered to be one of the greatest horn players who ever lived. Tragically, he died at the age of 36 in 1957, due to a car accident.

This piece is just superb, but the video we have of Brain performing is even more valuable. In the first few minutes of the video, he explains the difference between the old horn Beethoven would have written for, and the modern horn. I would highly recommend that you watch the beginning, but I have set the video to start when he begins to play. Enjoy!
