When Pastor Simon Story was called to leadership at Trinity Alberton Uniting Church just outside Adelaide’s CBD, it was a long way from the secular roles he and his partner Leesa had held in the years before.

With a passion for families and what Simon calls “our heart for God’s renewal”, they made Trinity Alberton their home, trusting that God might use their leadership to nurture something new.

As part of our Intergenerational series, we share the inspirational story that followed, of a journey towards intergenerational community and how the grace and courage to embrace change, and each other, is transforming the congregation. Simon says,

“At our last Generations Service we had everything from a three-week-old through to an 86-year-old. We’re created to be in community and when that community has a diversity to it, both culturally and of ages, I just think it’s so much richer.”

Simon has written an intergenerational Communion liturgy, which he has generously made available for others to use. Find it here

'Living out their right to self-determination'

In a new submission to a Senate Inquiry, UnitingCare Australia has called on the Australian Government to develop a national action plan to implement the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP) into all new and existing national law, policy and practice. It also calls for a full implementation of the Statement from the Heart. The UNDRIP was adopted by the UN in 2007 and covers all areas of the human rights of First Peoples. Australia signed on in 2009.

"A vision for faithful and thriving congregational mission"

The Growing in Faith Circle continues its series of reflections on the Basis of Union, asking people to consider how the Basis, 50 years after it was first published, enables or limits our capacity to develop new forms of mission and ministry. This week, read responses from Rev Linda Hanson, Associate Director of Mission - Mission Integration, UnitingCare Queensland, and Chairperson, Moreton Rivers Presbytery and Rev Stu Cameron, CEO and Superintendent Minister, Wesley Mission, Sydney, and formerly Lead Pastor, Newlife Church, Gold Coast. If the series sparks some insights for you, email us your thoughts.

Frontier Services Bush Chaplains gather in Sydney

This week the Frontier Services Bush Chaplains have gathered in Sydney! Travelling from as far as Meekatharra in Western Australia, West Arnhem Land in the Northern Territory and East Gippsland in Victoria, it has been a rare opportunity for face-to-face connection, to listen and learn from each other and to consider how they can plan and work together in their shared mission of supporting people in rural and remote Australia. Go to @Frontier Services on Facebook for updates from the gathering.

Celebrating the Reign of Christ

Rev David MacGregor, Panel Member of the Transforming Worship Circle, has written a poetic reflection for Christ the King Sunday this weekend, and has generously made it available in written and video form for others to use in worship. Christ the King Sunday, also known as The Reign of Christ, marks the end of the liturgical year and is a day to proclaim Christ's coming reign and reflect on the shape of power and leadership in the life and ministry of Jesus.

Sharing the gifts of partnership

Uniting Church in Australia President Rev Sharon Hollis met with church partners from across Southeast Asia in Bali recently. While there, she got to see the fruits of UnitingWorld’s work in partnership with local churches and the power that Everything in Common gifts can have. In particular, the President saw first-hand the transforming impact of a program run by host partner Gereja Kristen Protestan di Bali (GKP) which has helped rural participants begin a goat and chicken breeding business and provided joy and hope for the future.
