Dear Niwot Elementary Families,

I would like to thank all of our veterans and military families for their past and present service. We appreciate you!

Student Council will be sponsoring a Pajama Day on Friday, November 18. We look forward to seeing all of the students dressed up in their cozy pajamas.

There is a lot of excitement about the upcoming myOn Challenge taking place. The top 2 readers at Niwot Elementary will win lunch with Officer Ken, and he and another officer will each drive the top two readers to lunch in their police car (students swap cars/drivers on the drive back). The minutes must be read on myOn between November 18-November 28. The competition begins on Friday!

A BIG thank you to our 4th grade families for hosting our staff appreciation luncheon this past week. The food was amazing! We appreciate you!

Also, begin saving those cans as the Annual Canned Food Drive is coming soon!

I wish everyone a safe and relaxing weekend.  Don't forget, if you haven't yet, to log into IC and see your student(s) first semester grades.

Thank you for your continued support! Please reach out with any questions!

Sincerely,

Nancy Pitz
Principal

When is being sick too sick to come to school?

A child's ability to learn, perform and behave can depend on how they feel physically and illness plays a significant role in school absences. Often parents don’t understand when their child is too sick for school and when they can safely send them to school.  If a student has a contagious illness that could cause illness in other children, they should stay home.

Students can come and remain at school if:

  • They have a runny nose and a slight cough, but no other symptoms

  • They have been fever free for 24 hours without taking any fever reducing medicine.

  • Haven’t thrown up or had any diarrhea for 24 hours.

Students should remain home if:

  • The child doesn’t feel well enough to take part in normal activities

  • The child needs more care than teachers and staff can give, and still care for the other children.

The Health Services department follows guidelines developed by the Colorado Children’s Hospital when making a determination if a student is too sick to be at school.  We also work closely with our local public health departments in Weld and Boulder Counties for communicable disease control guidance.

The Week Ahead: 11/21-11/25

Happy Thanksgiving Break! Enjoy the week off!

The attendance policy at Niwot Elementary is one in which the first 10 absences are excused as long as there is communication with the school.  After 10 excused absences in a school year, a doctor’s note is required in order to excuse future absences.  A student will be considered "habitually" truant when he/she has 4 unexcused absences in a month or 10 total unexcused absences in a school year.   When a student is habitually truant the SVVSD School Advocate can potentially be involved and an Attendance Plan could be put into place.
