Mt Baker Beekeepers Association would like to say to our MBBA President - Ted McFall and his wife - Beebits Editor Dorothy McFall;
 
We appreaciate your heartfelt dedication to MBBA
Wishing you both the very best in your new adventures! 

 The McFall's have been beekeepers for many years and came to Pacific Northwest in 2018. Both Ted and Dorothy are Certified Master Beekeepers through Washington State Beekeeping Association and have provided countless hours dedicated to teaching others about beekeeping. 

Ted and Dorothy, have both played significant roles, propelling the Mt Baker Beekeepers Association into the forefront of becoming Whatcom County's premiere beekeeping club! Between raising their family, owning a family run business and working full time - they both have shown absolute true devotion to MBBA's cause, demonstrated high levels of positive energy in all they do and dedicated vast amounts of volunteered time! 

Ted's strong drive at promoting beekeeping education in our community, has enabled an strong growth and vast developement of many new beekeepers in Whatcom County. Dorothy as BeeBits Editor, has made great strides in providing MBBA members with the most up-to-date information on important MBBA activites.

MBBA 2nd Annual Silent Online Auction
 
Yes that's right! Back by popular demand, we are having our 
SILENT ONLINE AUCTION!

We need both DONATIONS and BIDDERS!

Question. What is the purpose of doing this?
Answer. MBBA is an non-profit beekeeping club and this is a great fundraiser for the club! These items help us with funding club equipment, special events, guest speakers, and educational programs. Bee generous if you’re able.

Question. Do the donations have to be beekeeping related? 
Answer. No! Items do not have to be bee related. It can be new or used - It could be garden to baked goods, homemade products or just something interesting.  Alcohol and some food related items cannot be shipped, so please keep them in mind when donating and bidding.

Question. How do I donate?
Answer. This is very easy! See steps below;
1) Take a photo of the item you are donating, send the picture to either Jon Moore  secretary@mtbakerbeekeepers.org or Chris Aanstead chris@mtbakerbeekeepers.org.
2) Be sure to provide a description of what you are donating.
3) MBBA will get it uploaded onto GalaBid!
4) Bring all items brought to the Dec 14th Annual Membership Meeting. If you are unable to do that please make alternate arrangements with either Jon or Chris. You can bring the simply bring the donated item to the club’s December Meeting, or can also make arrangements directly with the item winner after the auction. You may also contact secretary@mtbakerbeekeepers.org.

 
Question. How do I bid?
Answer. You must register in Galabid. Below are the easy to follow steps to get you registered and bidding! If you registered last year, you will need to log into the current auction and register again! 
  1. Visit: galabid.com/mbba2022
  2. Click on the 'Register' button
  3. Enter your details and click 'Register'
  4. You will then receive a verification link and a verification code via the email address you use to register.
  5. Either enter the verification code into your device, or simply click the link in the email to complete your verification. You are now ready to bid.
Question. When does the auction end?
Answer. At the annual meeting on December 14th 7:00pm.

Question. What happens if I win??
Answer. Arrangements for homemade or fresh food Items must be coordinated with the winner and the person donating. Alcohol and some food related items cannot be shipped, so please keep them in mind when bidding. Items can be paid for at the end of the auction at 7 PM on Dec 14th and taken home from our Annual Club Meeting at the Ferndale Public Library.
Note; At checkout, people winning an auction item are asked to make a voluntary contribution towards GalaBid’s costs at checkout. There is no obligation to contribute and opting out is easy using the dropdown menu at checkout. No financial penalties apply to the campaign if participants opt out.

2023 Nominations, Voting, and December Annual Meeting 
It's that time, again...
To nominate Officers and Board Members!

 
Board Members are elected every year, at the MBBA annual meeting which is held in December. The board can be made up of up to seven members. Officers are also Board Members and make up part of that seven. The positons are; President, Vice-President, Treasurer, Secretary and three Board Members (Directors). The board meetings are on the 2nd Wednesday every month, currently via zoom.

Consider becoming a board member for the MBBA in 2023!  You do not need to be an experienced beekeeper to be a board member. You only have to have an interest in helping to make decisions for the good of our non-profit association. For a complete description of
aims, objectives and duties, refer to MBBA Bylaws which are located on MBBA website. 

Qualifications for Officers and Board Members:


Officers - President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer
Only active, voting members in good standing are eligible to be an officer.
Officers are required to attend at least 50 % of regular monthly meetings.

Directors - Board Members and Officers
Active Corporate or Full Members of the MBBA in good standing.
Subscribe to the aims and objectives of the MBBA Directors.
Required to attend at least 60% of scheduled Board meetings.


Nominations for the positions will open at the November 16th general membership meeting and accepted up until the election is held, at the December 14th annual meeting.

Question. How do we vote?
Answer. There are 3 ways to vote;
1) Vote in person at the December 14th annual meeting.
2) Vote at the December 14th annual meeting by Zoom.
3) Vote by submission of proxy which shall be filed with the Secretary of the MBBA before or at the time of the December annual meeting. For further details on proxy see MBBA Bylaws

  • Equipment Check Out. Members are able to have check out free of charge for use of Honey Extractors.
  • Swarm Catcher. Qualified members may participate in this fantastic public service opportunity to help the community out and when called upon go out and catch honeybee swarms.

Great news! There have been NO verified sightings of Northern Giant Hornet (formarly known as Asian Giant Hornet).
MBBA Ruthie speaks at Smithsonian Conference

  
    
The Smithsonian Museum brought Ruthie to give a special Asian Giant Hornet Presentation and to be honored for being the person who “saved nest zero”.

Since Ruthie was the Smithsonian’s person of honor, she was brought into the secret vaults of 
the Smithsonian. Did Ruthie encounter the body of Jimmy Hoffa or JFK’s brain? Well, you’ll have to come to the November meeting to find out all the fun details. (Ruthie will present her D.C. adventure at the November General Meeting)


All of this was on the heels of Ruthie winning wasba’s “beekeeper of the year” for her AGH eradication efforts. Wonderful work!

Your MBBA board is hard at work planning and organizing the nuts and bolts of the club. The affairs of MBBA is managed by a Board of Directors, utilizing Bylaws as a tool to manage club business.  Regular club members are welcome to view the board meetings. Time is set aside at the beginning of each board meeting during the Open Forum session.  Club members may come sit in on board meetings and comment during the Open Forum.
