Message following restructuring process
The Brain Injury Association (top of the south) has completed a thorough review of its operations and looked closely at funding and donation options available to our organisation across the region. The Board is still exploring additional funding options for next year, including ongoing corporate donations, but due to its current financial constraints it has decided that it can only continue in the immediate term by downsizing the way it operates while still ensuring its services continue.
The model we have decided to go with is to maintain our services for the Nelson-Tasman-Marlborough area from our Nelson base. Both Emma-Jo and Eileen will continue in their roles. Unfortunately, the part-time Liaison Officer role in Marlborough has been made redundant. Since May we have been looking at how best we can support people in Marlborough who have been affected by a brain injury and are continuing to do that. Following the restructure though, this will now be through a mix of remote, face-to-face support and regular visits by the Nelson staff.
Support group activities for clients such as café visits are able to continue and staff will be present two times a month to keep in touch with people.
An annual fundraising plan is being formulated over the December-January period for staff and the Board to work on during 2023. More details should be available in February/March if anyone wishes to join-in on some of the events or activities that will come up.
The Board is continuing to look at further options for new funding that will bridge the quiet months when regular operational grants aren’t forthcoming and will regularly review the situation so that we can effectively service the needs of people affected by a brain injury.
