Join The Toy Dive At The Mossman Pool

SWIM into the Christmas spirit at the Mossman Pool and help fill the pool with toys for local families that may need a little extra support this festive season.

The Mossman Pool has launched its second annual Toy Dive – a splashed-up twist on a traditional toy drive – to contribute to the 2022 Mayor’s Christmas Appeal.

Warners Bridge nearing completion

FINAL asphalt sealing works are planned to be done this month with the bridge open to traffic before the end of the year.

The bridge is located along Warner Rd, about 4.5 km south-east of Mossman, and passes over Cassowary Creek, a non-tidal waterway.

Council accepts petition for public transport study

The petition, which was signed by 188 people, is asking Council to request the State Government to examine the social-economic benefit of public transport in Douglas Shire and further south to Cairns.

Drop In Sessions - March 2023 Daintree Ferry closure

Council is seeking feedback on the arrangements made for the November three-day closure of the Daintree Ferry needed to replace the northern ramp.

Council staff will be based at Daintree Peaks Eco Stays at 22 Ironbark Road, Diwan, on Tuesday 13 December 2022 and people are welcome to drop in anytime between 10am and midday.

The purpose for inviting feedback is to understand if Council can improve on any aspects.

Spectacular Displays To Bring In 2023

A DUAL fireworks show will light up the waterfront on New Year’s Eve in Port Douglas.

Family-friendly fireworks at 8pm and the popular midnight show at Dickson Inlet will see a celebratory spark bring in 2023.

Crocs AFL carpark, access via Wharf Street.

📍 MOSSMAN

Mossman SES shed at the rear of Council’s Administration Building in Mossman, access via Front Street.

Council is monitoring sand use and will replenish as required.

Remember to bring your own shovel.

Local Business to truck liquid waste

A Mossman business has been awarded a contract to truck leachate from Killaloe Waste Transfer Station to the Port Douglas Wastewater Treatment Plant.

Road Renewal contract awarded

Douglas Shire Council has awarded a contract to maintain its road network to Pioneer North Queensland Pty Ltd.

The annual road reseal program seeks to address priority road deficits such as cracking, stripping, rutting and localized failures.

Buy a raffle ticket today for your chance to win!

All proceeds go towards food hampers for eligible locals.

Tickets are $2 each or three for $5, and can be purchased at the Council Administration Building in Mossman, the Port Douglas Hub, Mossman Library and Mossman Pool.

Local boat ramps get further upgrades

As part of Council's program to upgrade boat ramps, solar lights and pavement reflectors are being installed at Newell Beach boat ramp. Cooya Beach boat ramp is getting new pavement, reflectors and a wash down area.
The Port Douglas public wharf will also be closed for repairs from 7am Monday 5 December to 5pm Friday 9 December 2022.

Works Notice: Captain Cook Highway, South Of Oak Beach

The Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) will commence slope stabilisation works on the Captain Cook Highway at two locations south of Oak Beach from Monday 5 December 2022, weather and construction conditions permitting.

New E-Scooter Rules And Increased Fines

New rules and increased fines now apply for riders of e-scooters, e-skateboards and similar devices that aim to make riders and everyone they interact with safe.

Annual Report Details Council Achievements

A STRONGER financial position alongside the delivery of key projects and a high level of service has been revealed in Douglas Shire Council’s latest annual report.

Council has endorsed the 2021/22 Annual Report which details the organisation’s progress to meet strategic goals and presents its financial statements.

Local Sporting Champions grant

Providing financial assistance for coaches, officials and competitors aged 12-18 participating in state, national or international championships.

  •  Applications for Round 3 are currently open and close 31 December 2022.
  • Applications for Round 4 open on 1 January 2023.

Successful applicants will receive $500 - $750 towards the cost of attending their championships.

Controlled Burn at Cape Kimberley

BIOSECURITY teams and mosquitos during the second controlled burn at Cape Kimberley last month. 
Douglas Shire Council’s biosecurity team worked with Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service (QPWS) and Traditional Owners to conduct the controlled burn. Planned burning has many benefits including maintaining ecosystems and ecological processes, conserving native flora and fauna and habitat essential for their survival, hazard reduction and protecting or maintaining cultural places.
