The year has come to an end, and we are most grateful for yet another fruitful year at Pro Sport Development. In our final newsletter of the year, we feature news of the launch of our report on the landscape of sport for development in India, presented at FICCI’s annual sports conference, TURF; we led a training for youth leaders with partner Mahila Jan Adhikar Samiti; and we held the final workshop with Girls Not Brides for youth facilitators from Uttar Pradesh.

Highlights of the Month

  • At the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry’s (FICCI) annual sports conference, TURF2022, we launched our landscaping report on sport for development in India, in collaboration with UNESCO New Delhi

  • We led a training workshop for Mahila Jan Adhikar Samiti, using football to develop leadership and facilitation skills

  • We held a training program for member organizations of Girls Not Brides in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh

‘More than a Game’ at FICCI’s TURF 2022

At this year’s annual global sports summit hosted by FICCI, TURF 2022, we launched our publication ‘More than a Game,’ in collaboration with UNESCO New Delhi. The report is a landscaping study highlighting various sport for development organizations and initiatives creating social impact across India.

Youth training with Mahila Jan Adhikar Samiti

In partnership with Mahila Jan Adhikar Samiti, we held a training in Ajmer, Rajasthan, from 25-27 November, for 34 female youth leaders to build their capacity on facilitation and leadership skills, using football as a tool. 

Khel Ek Seekh training in Lucknow

As part of our ongoing partnership with Girls Not Brides (GNB), we held a training program for youth facilitators from member organizations of GNB’s Uttar Pradesh coalition in Lucknow from 2-4 November. 20 youth workers were trained on using sport-based activities to tackle gender stereotypes.

Preparations begin for Street Child Cricket World Cup

In preparation for our participation in the Street Child Cricket World Cup (SCCWC) 2023, we have initiated a Community Cricket Program (CCP) in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, with select young people from our existing programs who are being trained in cricket and leadership skills. Our final team for the SCCWC 2023 will be selected from this cohort of youth participating in the CCP.

Grassroots sports and human right

Our Founder-Director, Suheil F. Tandon, attended an open house discussion on Sports and Human Rights, organized by the National Human Rights Commission of India. Diverse stakeholders were brought together to provide their views and insights into human rights issues within the sports industry in India, and discuss potential solutions for the same.

Suheil F. Tandon and Shahana Joshi from Policy and Development Advisory Group (PDAG) write about the need for enhanced sport policies to support sport initiatives that drive social outcomes.
