Reclaiming Space - from Jessica Joseph, Living Lab Arts and Engagement Programmer.  We are honoured to be learning and growing with such inspired/ inspirational community artists such as Jessica. For the Living Lab team this visual captures the essence of healing and land-water based restoration and resurgence.
I had the honour of witnessing the BCAFN youth council 2022. This digital stage lifted up indigenous youths' voices. I felt a strong connection to the words that painted a visual. The need to reclaim space is represented by the sun. Bringing to light the conflict and solutions faced within communities. Wellness is shared as a tree. Our connection to the land is grounding ourselves in ceremony, land-based learning, art and connecting with elders. Each piece within this illustration carries strong stories that break down boundaries for others to feel seen.

Summer Youth Eco-Stewards Program
Growing Restoration and Resurgence

After two summers of COVID restrictions, our Living Lab community was excited to host in-person events again! From July 18th to August 11th Living Lab hosted four weeks of eco stewards summer camps in Lekwungen and W̱SÁNEĆ / Salish Sea territories and at UVic.

Participants from the Songhees, Esquimalt Nations Education Departments and members of the SȾÁ,SEN TŦE SENĆOŦEN Language Revitalization Program (W̱SÁNEĆ School Board) took part in hands-on learning about local history with elders and knowledge keepers. A special thank you to everyone involved, especially Ellie Dion and Maya Hamel and the W̱SÁNEĆ School Board. Stay tuned and visit our website for more info!
