News

The NHS and social care staffing crisis have frequently been in the news in recent years, and creative solutions are needed to encourage more people to take up training. It is therefore wonderful to hear that Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals (DBTH) has entered a formal partnership with Retford Oaks Academy as part of the Foundation School in Health programme. The Trust is looking to share the framework, encouraging other NHS Trusts to create partnerships with local education providers. You can read more about this announcement here

Health inequalities

There is much being written about health inequalities, partly prompted by the unequal impact of the pandemic. We’d like to share some of this with you.

With news that over half a million over 50s have left the labour market, predominantly for reasons of ill-health, businesses are learning that the health of their employees matters. This helpful infographic from NHS England on this link outlines 10 ways businesses can help address health inequalities.

The NHS Confederation has commissioned research to quantify the contribution of the NHS to economic growth. They assessed that for every pound invested in the NHS, £4 goes back into the economy through increased productivity. Health matters! You can read the report here

Anita Charlesworth from the Health Foundation has written this incisive blog looking at how health and the economy are interconnected. The blog links to much of the research the Foundation has done around health inequalities and health and the economy. You can read more here

The Local Government Association, with NISE, has organised a webinar on the 6th December, 2-3.15pm, titled 'Economic Inactivity: how can an inclusive and sustainable economic approach can help shift the dial?'. Register here.
