GRAND OPENING OF THE PERFORMING ARTS CENTER
The grand opening of the stunning new Performing Arts Center was held on Wednesday, November 30th. Along with the auditorium, the multi-purpose design includes a glass lobby, state of the art audio/video technology, audio booth, theatrical lighting and staging, and a catering space which will enhance many future events and performances. There is also a display case and other items showcased from the 1915 building. The Art Center also houses our 6th grade students and our administrative offices. We are very fortunate and elated on the opening of this community-wide asset!
The previously scheduled Wayne Local Board Of Education meeting has changed from Monday, December 5th to Tuesday, December 6, 2022. It will be held in the Performing Arts Center.

The NHS Induction Ceremony was held at the beautiful Performing Arts Center on December 1, 2022. Being a member of the National Honor Society is one of the highest academic and character achievements for a high school student. Students are carefully selected based on their extraordinary commitment and devotion to excel in the following areas: Character, Scholarship, Service, and Leadership. High School Tutors assisting Elementary Students
Thank you to our High School Student Peer Tutors who help our elementary students. The peers are shown above assisting second graders with their reading skills. The high school peers are expected to be a positive role model and advocates for the students with whom they are working with. The peers are looked up to by the elementary students and are known to have the potential to make a monumental impact on on the children.

What is the POWER UP program?
This week our sixth-grade students participated in a special program called, POWER UP. As part of the Ohio Department of Education Social Emotional Learning Standards, POWER UP provides a prevention approach to healthy relationships. Through scenario and discussion driven presentations, students gain awareness of what constitutes healthy and unhealthy relationships. The areas of focus are feelings and emotions, healthy communication, education on bullying, and what it means to be a citizen in their school.
How will this be beneficial for our students?
This 3-day presentation is drawn from the evidence-based curriculum Safe Dates, Expect Respect, and Search Institute 40 Developmental Assets. There are intersections between this curriculum and the Ohio Department of Education’s Social/Emotional Learning skills (ODE SEL). Mr. Lutz has gone through extensive training to be able to present this information in a trauma informed way. This also meets the suggestions from ODE for schools to have trauma informed resources.
In addition, this curriculum meets the requirement of OH Sub HB 19 of the 128th General Assembly, or the “Tina Croucher Act.” This act requires Ohio schools to incorporate teen dating violence prevention education in the health curriculum. This program is approved and paid for through the Ohio Department of Health.

Boys Basketball
In the season opener, the Spartans sought to fly away with the win on the road against the Clinton Massie Falcons. The two teams butted heads early on with the Falcons putting up a decent fight against the Spartans. Clinton Massie buckled under the pressure of The Spartans and went into halftime with a score of 34-19. In the second half Massie had attempted a comeback in the third quarter however it was short lived as The Spartans ultimately won with a final score of 61-52.
On Tuesday, the Spartans faced off against the Brookville Blue Devils at home. In typical Spartans fashion they came out of the gate ready to win, although they were met with some resistance it dissipated in the second quarter with the Spartans carrying it into halftime with a score of 19-32 in favor of Waynesville. Coming out of halftime the Spartans continued their rampage with Brookville occasionally answering back and ended the game with a final score of 43-62 resulting in a Spartans win.
Girls Basketball
On Monday, the Lady Spartans went toe to toe with the Arcanum Trojans at home. The Spartans established themselves as the team to beat early on putting on an offensive clinic while also keeping the Trojans off the scoreboard as much as possible and went into halftime with a score of 9-39. The second half was a continuation of the first half playing extremely dominant while also shutting the Trojans down when need be. The game finally ended with a final score of 21-62 resulting in a Spartans win.
Congratulations to Maggie Stephenson with a school record 14 steals in the game and tied for the 6th most overall in OHSAA Girls Basketball.
On Thursday, the Lady Spartans took on the Eaton Eagles on the road. This game had turned into a dogfight early on with both teams fighting hard for the lead. After a lot of back and forth scoring the Spartans carried the game into halftime with a score of 33-31 in favor of Waynesville. Going into the second half there was more of the same with both teams playing for every possible point. Ultimately the Eagles were no match for the Spartans however, with a final score of 59-50 which resulted in a Spartans win.
Meet the Teams Night
On Wednesday night, all High School Winter sports teams were recognized at the Meet the Teams Night in the high school gym. The high school pep band and cheerleaders provided entertainment while all team members and musicians were introduced to the community. It was a fun filled night of excitement as we prepare for a highly competitive and successful winter sports season!

LAST WEEK FOR FOOD DRIVE!!!
Jr. and Sr. High Canned Food Drive
November 30 - December 9, 2022
The Wayne Local Schools Food Drive is a school community event that has been an annual tradition for many years. Donating food to the Waynesville Food Pantry helps so many families in need. Wayne Local Schools empowers students to be active members of the community, provide service to others, and strive to have compassion and excellence in all that they do. Donating to those in need gives them an opportunity to practice showing compassion towards others and helps to provide families with nutritious meals.
The Jr./Sr. High will be holding their canned food drive from November 30 - December 9. Items that are really needed are: canned chicken, peanut butter, mac and cheese, ramen noodles, jelly, chicken noodle soup, boxed potatoes, cereal, spaghetti, pasta sauce, granola bars, crackers, canned fruit and vegetables, and any other non-perishable items.
The Connect groups will be competing to bring in the most cans, ultimately winning a donut party for their class and a point for their House. Jr. High classes will be competing to see who can be the class that brings in the most cans and will have advantages in the annual dodgeball tournament.
In coordination with the American Legion Auxiliary Unit Post 615, the Canned Food Drive also helps support their efforts with their holiday baskets during the season.
Our hope is to provide for as many people in need this Holiday season. Thank you for any and all donations!

The Elementary School is also participating in the Food Drive and will run their own incentive contest and collection process. The food drive is such an amazing experience as we witness exactly how generous our students, staff, and community is.

Dressing up is optional, however, on Wednesday, December 14th, the PTO is sponsoring a performance of "A Seussified Christmas Carol" by TCT On Tour: A Division of the Children's Theater of Cincinnati. While dressing up is not mandatory, if children can "Dress to Impress" that day, it would be great!
