Northern California Ocean in late November 2022

November went fast and time to wrap up 2022

It took me a whole month to adjust back to my daily routine after October's fast pace Korea trip and now it is already December!

I am grateful for your love and support in 2022!  Now my 2023 calendar is filling fast with in-person and virtual workshops and other events. I look forward to sharing and spending more time with you!

Did you remember that I was busy visiting many wonderful artists, studios, and two national intangible treasures of Korean traditional art and craft (indigo dyeing and Nubi, Korean hand quilting)? One of those national intangible treasures is 정관채, Jung Kwan-chae. I applied for the Personal Development Grant from the Surface Design Association in 2021 and this grant supported my visit to master dyer Jung Kwan-chae. Recently I spotted him while I was watching Netflix. Here's the trailer for the program. If you are interested in Korean textile tradition, don't miss episodes 6 and 4! You will learn so much about Jjok (Korean indigo dyeing tradition) and mosi (ramie) making tradition!

I usually save December for catch-up time with family and this year is more special to me. I have a personal joy to share with you. My daughter will get married in December to her high school sweetheart. I am so happy to see they tie the knot after being together for years.
기러기, a goose, is a symbol of a long and happy marriage in Korean culture. I got these beautiful wooden geese made by an artist in Korea. Then I made 기러기보, gireogibo, bojagi to wrap geese. I followed the traditional construction and motifs but chose colors to match the couple's hanbok,한복.
Here are my wishes for a long and happy life together.

Have a wonderful holiday time and I will see you in 2023!
