Regulatory Updates & Initiatives
|
Here are some recent developments and publications:
- Kevan Cowan will be appointed the new Chair of the OSC, pending review by the Standing Committee on Government Agencies.
- The OSC published its annual Corporate Finance Branch Report, an important resource to help issuers and their advisors with their reporting obligations.
- The CSA published notices that recognize the New Self-Regulatory Organization of Canada (New SRO) and approve the new Canadian Investor Protection Fund (CIPF), effective January 1, 2023.
- The OSC announced new fee rules will be in place for market participants effective April 3, 2023, pending Ministerial approval. Certain market participants that are the most active in Ontario’s over-the-counter derivatives market will be subject to a new fee, while the vast majority of Ontario market participants will benefit from a reduction in certain fees.
- Canadian securities regulators reminded investors about risks of trading crypto assets. Trading in crypto assets comes with elevated levels of risk that may not be suitable for many investors, in particular retail investors. The value and liquidity of crypto assets are highly volatile.

The CSA announced it is seeking input on improving access to real-time market data for equity securities, including several proposed regulatory options to improve its availability.
