Support WE-CAN Today

Greetings, <<First Name>>! Can you bring this request to your Team or Board the next time you meet?

Would <<Organization>> be willing to help WE-CAN continue its work, by making a donation anywhere between $40 and $1,000, depending on what your group can afford?

We have 241 member groups, but we don’t want to create a barrier to entry by asking for a membership fee. Almost all our work is done by volunteers, but we need your support to be able to pay our part-time Network Coordinator, Mari Piggott, who holds everything together.

This January, it will be two years since we started WE-CAN. Our launch with Grand Chief Stewart Phillip happened six months later. During that time volunteers have worked every day to enable WE-CAN to serve its members. Governments and businesses make promises, and there is lots of talk, but the one thing that is known to make a difference is groups like <<Organization>>, who have the commitment and determination to act now, as the urgency demands. We formed WE-CAN to encourage, nurture and strengthen BC’s many climate groups. Together, we can build a climate movement strong enough to change history.

During 2022:

  • Our membership has grown to 241 climate action groups and initiatives around BC. We are soon to launch an interactive digital map that will enable people to find every climate action group in BC and learn about their climate initiatives.

  • We have published 80 weekly issues of WE-CAN News with details of climate actions, news, and solutions; events organized by member groups; grant opportunities; and climate job vacancies.

  • We have started running quarterly Climate Action Provincial Assemblies (CAPA), bringing people from climate groups together to work cooperatively and support each other. The next one will be in January or February 2023.

  • We organized a campaign which helped 146+ climate champions to win election to their local councils or school boards. We plan to offer continued support over the next four years, as they work to bring climate action to their communities.

  • With encouragement from the BC Assembly of First Nations we launched the Indigenous Climate Action Data Quilt Project, to map every Indigenous climate initiative in BC, in partnership with Sharon Marshall, a Metis/Cree entrepreneur who runs www.DigitalDeva.org. You can see the beta-version here.

  • We are about to launch two new initiatives: one to assemble information on training initiatives that climate action groups can benefit from, and where there are gaps, we will find ways to fill them; the other to develop the best ways to help new climate action groups to form.

You are our foundation, our heartbeat. It is you who we believe in, and strive to support, which is why we are hoping you can help us to continue our work to build a climate movement in BC that will be strong enough to make history, and change the world.

Thank-you for caring about our planet. Thank-you for believing that WE-CAN do more together.

And keep up the great work!

From all the volunteers on the Board of WE-CAN: Erin Blondeau, Alison Bodine, Guy Dauncey, Whelm King, Katherine Maas, Lily Mah-Sen, Erik Minty, Sebastian Sajda, Miah Shull Olmsted, Tara Shushtarian, and Casey Stein.
