Do you have an interest/skill/hobby you’d like to share with others at the library? Consider submitting a proposal for a program for adults in one of these three areas: the arts, environmental sciences, and local history. The Community-Led Learning Team will meet December 12 to review proposals for winter programs. Pick up a proposal form at the library desk or email feltonlibraryfriends.org. If you have an interest in a different area, it may be possible to work with library staff on a program.
SLV Rotary heard a presentation on Community-Led Learning from FLF President Nancy Gerdt and Treasurer Michele Mosher at their November 2 meeting.

The toys in the FLF display caseare only a small part of John Fasola’s collection of space toys. John has many additional collections, including cars, action figures, buses, dogs, and unique Barbie dolls. He started collecting toys, mainly trains, when he was in seventh grade. When he remodeled his Felton home in 1999, he made and installed 15 lighted glass cabinets to showcase his extensive and growing toy collections throughout the house. John has a great imagination, and says he enjoys seeing the toys every day!

Volunteer Opportunities
The next garden work party at the Discovery Park will be Saturday, January 6, 9–11 a.m. Come join the crew to move some young manzanita plants from under the oaks to sunnier locations and, as always, remove invasives.

Mary Coin, by critically acclaimed author Marisa Silver, was chosen for Our Community Reads, sponsored by Friends of the Aptos Library. The book takes Dorothea Lange’s “Migrant Mother” photograph as inspiration for a breathtaking reinvention—a story of two women, one famous and one forgotten, and of the remarkable legacy of their singular encounter. See the NPR review here. You can order the book from the library or Bookshop Santa Cruz; it’s also available on Kindle and Audible.
Events related to themes of the book, such as the Great Depression, photography, and farmworkers, will be offered in February throughout the county, including one at the Felton Library sponsored by FLF.
