Hello fellow communitarian,

We're talking about membership in week 6 of our countdown of the top ten ways FIC has impacted the intentional communities movement this past year.

Finding core members for your community requires a good bit of equal parts hard work and strategic thinking, as well as a willingness to be open-hearted and vulnerable. And it takes some real intention to refine an effective, authentic message and to get that message in front of the right people.

If you're starting or in community, there's a lot to consider when attracting prospective members, like marketing and diversity. And when it comes to retaining members, you need to think about how to support their orientation and integration.

This year we launched our new
FIC membership program. As a learner member, you get access to our 'Member Library  with with 200+ community documents, webinars, workshops, templates and guides.
In community,

We ran our membership course three times this year and nearly 100 learners took part, and have 874 communities in our directory seeking members.

Lots of groups struggle to attract members, and this can be for a wide variety of reasons.  There might be financial barriers, unaddressed interpersonal dynamics, lack of clarity in the membership process or mission, founder’s syndrome, or any number of other things.
It could also be that your outreach efforts aren’t enough or focused in the right way.

Watch this webinar - How to get people to join your Community? - to see some common issues, discuss outreach strategies, and help you figure out how to both get people in the door and want to stay once they’re there.
