The Faculty of Management Sciences and the Durban University of Technology hosted the Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa (BRICS) Summer School in Durban this week. The Summer School South Africa 2022 commenced in the Mansfield Hall on the Ritson Campus at DUT on Monday morning.
This is one of the deliverables of the BRICS Institute grant from the National Institute for the Humanities and Social Sciences (NIHSS) received by Prof Fulufhelo Netswera supported by Dr Ndivhuho Tshikovhi. The Summer School brings together young leaders from BRICS and the Global countries to conduct a series of workshops and lectures that focuses on economic, political, cultural and development in BRICS.
Professor Suren Singh, Acting Deputy Vice-Chancellor: Teaching and Learning at the Durban University of Technology (DUT), is a man of many talents. He is a National Research Foundation (NRF) B3-rated researcher, an accomplished scientist and a leader in higher education. Away from the excitement of campus life, Prof Singh is often seen on the roads, with his bike, proudly wearing his DUT colours.
Prof Singh has ridden in numerous cycle races around the country and last weekend, he completed his fifth 94.7 cycle race in Gauteng. The Umhlanga resident seems to be getting fitter and faster each year, after he completed the 2022 94.7 race in a time of two hours and 57 minutes. That was 12 minutes faster than last year, which was an impressive improvement.
The Durban University of Technology (DUT) scooped four awards at the Marketing, Advancement and Communication in Education (MACE) Excellence Awards and Gala Dinner held at the Maslow Time Square Hotel in Pretoria on Thursday evening, 17 November 2022.

An Institutional audit update by Dr Paulette Powell
The quality of what we do is our primary responsibility as the Durban University of Technology (DUT) staff members, so it stands to reason that our contribution to the Quality of the Institutional Audit self-evaluation report is also our combined responsibility!
After several months of meetings, writing workshops, and other communications with staff from across the university, the Institutional Audit Self Evaluation Report is finally reaching a stage where it is being circulated to faculties and Institutional Committees for comments. We are grateful that Dr Di Moodley (Research Coordinator) and Ms Andrea Alcock (DUT Writing Centre) have been providing input as internal critical readers. We are also delighted to have the expertise and experience of Dr Mark Hay as our external critical reader.
