This Week at St. Anthony Parish

November 27, 2022  I  The 1st Sunday of Advent

Therefore, stay awake! For you do not know on which day your Lord will come. Be sure of this: if the master of the house had known the hour of night when the thief was coming, he would have stayed awake and not let his house be broken into. So too, you also must be prepared, for at an hour you do not expect, the Son of Man will come." (Mt. 24:42-44)

Read today's gospel.

Advent at St. Anthony

Our annual Advent calendar is out! You may have received one as an insert in last weekend's bulletin, and copies will be available at the church entrances all throughout Advent! Looking for ways to prayerfully enter into each week of Advent? Find some time to pause and be lead by Fr. Mark Toups through an Advent meditation on Mary and Joseph and moving from uncertainty to trust.
Pause & Pray

Saint Nicholas Breakfast Next Sunday!

Join us after both Sunday Masses on December 4 for our annual Saint Nicholas Breakfast! A pancake breakfast will be served in de Padua Hall over in the gym. We hear there may even be a special visit from Saint Nicholas himself!

In Lieu of December's Donut Sunday

The Saint Nicholas Breakfast will be held in lieu of December's Donut Sunday. Not to worry though, because the Saint Nicholas breakfast is always delicious!

Church Renovation Response Data

Hello St. Anthony community. Thank you again for taking the time to share your thoughts on the church renovation with us. We analyzed the data and developed a table which captures key insights based on your responses. In addition to this prioritized order of importance, we also received suggestions (each mentioned at least twice) to renovate the choir loft, baptistry, East entrance accessibility, outdoor spaces (e.g., parking lot, landscaping, etc.) and pews/kneelers. The next step in this process will involve consulting with Fr. Arthur, the architect, the renovation committee, the parish council and the finance council to put a plan together that balances this feedback with Fr. Arthur's priorities and our ability to fund improvements. Thank you for your patience thus far, and we look forward to sharing further developments.

A Change for Good

Over the next week, say a prayer for those who are in need as you toss your loose change into the baptistry. Every coin will be collected and given to the St. Vincent de Paul Society after the Saint Nicholas Breakfast on Dec. 4.

The Directories Have Arrived!

After all Masses this weekend, stop by the tables near the southeast entrance of the church to pick up your copy of the directory. If you came and sat for a photo or submitted your own, we have a copy (with your name labeled on the inside) waiting for you. Just jump in the appropriate line which corresponds to the first letter of your last name, and someone will be there to assist in finding your copy.

Please refrain from taking a copy yourself so we can ensure that people receive the copy with their name in it.

There will be four lines:
  • A-C, D-H, J-R, & S-Z.
Copies will be freely available once everyone who had their photo taken or submitted a photo has received their copy.

Advent Giving Tree: Take a Tag

The St. Vincent de Paul Advent Giving Tree is now up in the church vestibule. Consider taking a tag to bless a child or family in need. We hope to collect all gifts by Sunday, December 11 so that we can sort and deliver them on Saturday, December 17.

What to Do:

  • Select as many tags as you would like.
  • Purchase the item(s) listed on the tags.
  • Wrap each gift WITH THE TAG ATTACHED.

Return the gift in one of 2 ways:

  • Place all wrapped gifts in the old SCRIP room (next to the Infant of Prague) in the back of the church at any of the Masses between Saturday, November 19th - Sunday, December 11th.
  • Bring wrapped gifts to the parish office by 3:15 pm on Monday, December 12.
Thank you for your generosity, and God bless you!

We'd Love Your Help

Aside from purchasing gifts for families, the Giving Tree will take a coordinated effort on the part of our parish. Please click the button below and sign up to help purchase, sort, and/or deliver. We'd love to have your help to ensure this year's giving tree runs smoothly. Thank you for pitching in!

Would You Like to Serve as a Sacristan?

We are currently looking for more people to serve as sacristans. In this ministry, reliable and detail-oriented individuals show up 30 minutes before the start of Mass to prepare the altar, readings, and other logistics. We are in need of people who can serve at least once a month at one of our weekend Masses.

Please reach out to Lindsey Barrett at lbarrett@stasb.org if you are interested or would like to get more information.

Senior Fellowship Lunch: Dec. 7

Save the date for Wednesday December 7, for the next Seniors Fellowship lunch and social gathering, starting at 12pm. Father Arthur has graciously offered to host our get-together in the rectory. The rectory is the brick house on southwest corner of Jefferson and Ironwood, right across the street

from the school. Attendees may park in the McGann Hay parking lot if they wish. We hope to see you there!

A Few Last Things

Bishop's Appeal Donations Still Welcome

We are getting closer to our parish ABA goal and hope for a strong push these next few weeks to get us well over the finish line. We are so grateful for every contribution thus far. If you have yet to give, please consider doing so. Any funds we raise beyond the parish goal will help fund new signage on the corner of Ironwood & Jefferson and next to the school gym.

If you’d like to donate or pledge online, visit the Bishop's Appeal website. Thank you for your generosity!

We are looking for an amazing 3rd grade teacher! Could this be you? Or, do you know someone who would be interested? Feel free to spread the word!
