A miraculous healing is not the beginning of our member of the month’s story. The son of a preacher,  Deacon Bernard McKinley has a long history with the Lord and ministry. It is no wonder that God directed him to Family Life when he moved to Georgia. Throughout his time with Family Life, Bernard has served in various capacities, from finance to diaconate and many things in between. One thing Pastor always says, “I can count on Bennie!” and so can Family Life!

When Covid tried to take Bennie out, Family Life did not sit back and just watch it happen. Prayers went forth petitioning God to save him every day for over a month. God heard the cries of our hearts and he began to get better. Now, he is back at it and working diligently in service to the ministry. He keeps doing everything he can to get it right and do what God would have him to do. Perseverance, consistency, and his heart for God are only a few of the reasons that we are proud to name Bernard McKinley our November member of the month.

Five takeaways from the Georgia Senate debate

When Democratic Sen. Raphael Warnock and Republican Herschel Walker met to debate in the already contentious Georgia Senate race, all the focus was on how personal allegations against Walker would roil the first – and likely only – debate in the campaign.

Walker continued to deny allegations that he paid for a woman to terminate her pregnancy and then, two years later, encouraged the same woman to have the procedure a second time, calling them “a lie.” That, however, was just a blip in the hour-long contest, which instead centered on Warnock’s ties to President Joe Biden, the vast differences between the two candidates on abortion and even, however briefly, Walker’s use of what appeared to be a sheriff’s badge.

Warnock, as he has on the campaign trail, did not engage on the controversy over the allegations against Walker, instead choosing to question his Republican opponent’s relationship to the truth.

 Breaking News:

Biden launches student loan forgiveness application President Joe Biden on Monday announced the formal launch of the federal application for Americans seeking student loan forgiveness.

“This is a game changer for millions of Americans … and it took an incredible amount of effort to get this website done in such a short time,” Biden said in a speech at the White House.

Individuals seeking to apply for student debt relief can now fill out the form at Studentaid.gov. A beta version of the website was launched on Friday and Biden said 8 million Americans used the website over the weekend to fill out their applications.

Music Prodigies

The young warriors of the Family Life Academy of Excellence are thriving in so many ways. This past Sunday, we highlighted our awesome achievers during the Young Warrior’s Day worship service.

They had the opportunity to demonstrate the amazing things that God is doing through our music program taught by Mr. Montias Crump and Ms. Consuelo Brown.

Our students played a signature worship song of Family Life MBC entitled “The Jesus in Me”, identified musical notes by sight and sound, and concluded by playing a portion of Digital Savannah by Jesse Fischer and Soul Cycle.

It is amazing what our youth can do as they embody Philippians 4:13 and use their gifts to glorify God.

How the Fall Affected Evangelism

David wrote, “The heavens declare the glory of God and the expanse proclaims the work of his hands” (Psalm 19:1).

Jesus responded to the Pharisees, when they told him, “Teacher rebuke your disciples,” by saying, “I tell you, if they were to keep silent, the stones would cry out” (Luke 19:10).

We learn something extremely important about creation in these two verses. We learn that creation, by its very nature, is an evangelist. The heavens “declare,” the expanse “proclaims,” and the rocks “cry out” in an act of praise to its Creator.

If creation is, by its nature, an evangelist, then it would only stand to reason that human beings — by their very nature — should be considered evangelists as well.

Chronic Single Fatigue Syndrome

As the roller coaster ride that is 2022 draws very swiftly to a close, so does the cumbersome lockdown period inspired by COVID-19. People are finding themselves fatigued of staying inside and are slowly merging themselves outside into our new normal; desperate for human connection. For the believer, single or otherwise, we must not let our craving for human connection lead us down a path away from our heavenly Father. The timely topic of single fatigue was the subject of one of this month's SAS sessions held on Mondays via Zoom.

The evening began with an engaging table topic concerning the validity of the advice of the late Kevin Samuels. Deas. Trunaé Green pointed out that being intentional as early as possible during the single season sets you up to give God glory in your married life. As the evening progressed, she encouraged the attendants to not end up in the danger zones of single fatigue which are: faking it until you make it, rushing into an unholy alliance, and depleting your self-worth. Dea-Elect Thomas Green then ended the evening by bringing out the point that being fake puts you in a position to manage things that need to be filtered out through the word of God. With that, the evening concluded.

Winter is coming: How to tell the difference

between COVID-19, the flu, and RSV

The season of sickness has begun and three common winter illnesses are now on the rise. Doctors said they are seeing a surge in several viruses as the cooler months approach, including COVID-19, the flu, and respiratory syncytial virus, or RSV.

RSV is one of the most common viruses climbing in children. At its worst RSV can cause children to struggle to breathe. You can look at the child's chest muscles and skin, and see if they contract with each breath. This same breathing struggle can also impact older adults. It can be confirmed with a test in the doctor’s office and comfort care is recommended, but hospitalization may be needed for severe symptoms.

The flu has many of the same symptoms of RSV -- and it's climbing, too. The flu tends to have a sudden onset of symptoms, intense body aches with fever, and trouble breathing. Many cases of flu can be prevented by taking the flu vaccine.  Antiviral medications like Tamiflu are also available to help shorten the course of illness.

There are also several new COVID variants circulating. These "grandchildren" are known as BQ.1.1 and XBB. They cause milder illness, but flu-like symptoms. Sore throat and body aches can come on gradually, but they can progress to trouble breathing. A test-to-treat pharmacy can give you an antiviral, such as Paxlovid, in the first five days of symptoms. It is recommended that everyone get fully vaccinated and boosted to help prevent an increase in serious cases.

Reading Spot

As we still bask in the new year, this is a great time to designate your "reading spot"! Now I know you are probably wondering, 'what is a reading spot'? Simply put, it's a place you have created to get cozy behind a book. It is the spot you have created just for reading. This month I am sharing 4 Tips on creating the perfect reading spot!

1. Your reading spot should be in a quiet place. This may be a place in your home, such as a corner in a room, the closet, or even the garage. It can also be a place outdoors. Find what works for you!

2. Once you have chosen the space, make it cozy. You want your area to feel warm and inviting. Adding a few throw pillows, a throw blanket, and a nice rug can help create that comfortable space. You can even add a comfortable chair or bean bag. Choose what works best for you.

3. Next, put your favorite books and current reads in that space. It will help remind you that it is your reading spot, and you'll always know where to find your recent books.

4. Lastly, grab your favorite drink, head to your reading spot, and start reading!

Do you have a reading spot? And if not, did you find these tips helpful? Let me know! Please email me at trunaegreen@gmail.com. As always, Happy Reading!

In October, the Couples Are Partners group decided to take one more trip across Atlanta for the final Date Night of the year. Pasta Bella is always a fan favorite for the couples, and the delicious pasta and Italian fair did not disappoint.

The CAP facilitators, Bishops A. T. & Rosemary Lands, began the night with a table topic concerning marital commitment in ministry. A question was posed by Pastor Dominick Holland, “Why is it so difficult for people to balance ministry life with marriage, family, and work life?”

The other couples chimed in with honest answers about the importance of putting God first in EVERY area of life and how easily the enemy can trick God’s people into putting God on the back burner.

The central theme of commitment rang through the discussion as it has throughout the entire year. The CAP family is feeling more equipped to transition with greater commitment in marriage as well as in ministry.

The conversation was refreshing for the couples and an amazing end to our 2022 Date Night outings.

Couples Are Partners Date Night has wrapped up for 2022, but follow us on social media @couplesarepartners for updates on what we are doing next!

How Queen Elizabeth II's Controversial Trip to Ghana Changed the Future of the Commonwealth - Biography

In 1961, Queen Elizabeth II planned to go to Ghana, a former British colony that had gained its independence in 1957. But before she left on the trip, which was to take place on November 9 to 20, members of Parliament and the public didn't want her to go due to rising tensions in a country where President Kwame Nkrumah was well on his way to becoming a dictator. They were wary of the visit becoming too dangerous. On October 19, Winston Churchill expressed these sentiments when he wrote to Prime Minister Harold Macmillan, saying in part: "I have the impression that there is widespread uneasiness both over the physical safety of the queen and, perhaps more, because her visit would seem to endorse a regime which has imprisoned hundreds of Opposition members without trial and which is thoroughly authoritarian in tendency."

To aid growing tensions, five days before Elizabeth's trip was to begin, bombs went off in the capital city of Accra. A statue of Nkrumah was hit, which showed the president was a target. Concerns about the queen possibly becoming collateral damage while with him were heightened.
