Resources & Webinar Recording

Thank you for attending IABC/Toronto’s recent professional development webinar, presented by Matisse Hamel-Nelis, International award winner, Vice President of Communications for AbelDocs and Vice President of Communications, Marketing & Digital Media for IABC/Toronto.

This one-hour session was jam-packed full of insights and “aha” moments, so we wanted to provide you with a link to the recording should you wish to rewatch it.

In addition, please see below for a list of resources that were referenced and will help set you up for success for accessible communications.

Resources:
  • Emojipedia - This site provides information on emojis and the alt-text associated with each.
  • PDF Accessibility Checker Download from the PDF/UA Foundation - The PDF Accessibility Checker, known in the industry as PAC 2021, provides you with a detailed report on how accessible, or inaccessible, your PDF document is. This is for PDFs only. You can export Word documents as PDFs, or in InDesign, export an interactive PDF. Make sure you have associated export tags to your paragraph styles to make tagging your PDF easier.
  • Who Can Use - This is an excellent website for checking colour contrast and WCAG compliance and seeing how people with different colour blindness see the same colour combinations.
  • WebAIM Contrast Checker - This site allows you to check colour contrast and WCAG compliance (AODA looks for 4.5:1 or AA compliance) and explains why the combinations work or are a miss.
  • Adobe Contrast Checker - This site allows you to check colour contrast, WCAG compliance (AODA looks for 4.5:1 or AA compliance) and explains why the combinations work or are a miss.
  • Adobe Color Blind Check - Allows you to check a palette of colours and offers a colourblind simulator for the entire palette for the three most common types of colour blindness.
