The Joy of Helping When You Can

I had an incredibly inspiring experience this past week that I want to tell you about.

About two weeks ago, we met a young Ukrainian couple who came to Canada to start over after fleeing their war-torn country. They landed without jobs but with work permits given to them by the Canadian government. They had their first apartment rented, but it was completely empty. We met them at church and our church community and church life group surrounded them with love, and just brought all those physical stuff to them, like furniture, cutlery and crockery, etc. People just brought them stuff and it was just a joy to see. She found a job fairly easily and quickly, but he had not found a job yet.

So, what I did was I sent out his resume to my whole network of CEO’s and executives -  more than 50, I think it was about 65 e-mails. I just sent out this big blast to each one of these incredibly busy people. They are leading big companies, they've got lots of responsibilities, and they always have to juggle what's important, what's not important. And you know what, not a single person came back and said, I'm not willing to help. They all asked for his resume, they are all sending it out. We've got a couple of appointments for interviews for him already lined up and it's looking really promising.

It just made me realize how blessed I am to be able to be working with people of this caliber. I've never seen a successful person, especially in a leadership position, who is not willing to stop when it's important, to reach out and to help someone who's in dire need. Someone who's deserving, someone who wants to work hard, and pull the future together. I just love it.

My inspiration, my message to you is, whenever you see this around you, there's incredible joy at the end of helping someone, once you're in the position to do it.

I remember the day we landed as immigrants. I was in that position too where I absolutely had to find a job quickly. It was great to be surrounded by people who helped. Now, to plow back, is even better. There's lots of joy at the end of that, when you can help others to find their path through life.

Have a great week.
