Pen Pals
The pupils in class 5V were very excited to receive letters from their Pen-Pals this week, after waiting over 7 weeks for them to arrive. Our Pen-Pals are writing from a primary school based in Grand Rapids, Michigan in the United States of America. The pupils were very surprised to learn that they have a lot in common with their Pen-Pals, despite living thousands of miles apart. We can not wait to start writing our letters.

Year 1 Games
As part of their work on toys and materials, the Year 1 pupils used their creative skills to make simple games for the nursery pupils. The nursery teachers gave us specification points to work within so that the games were suitable and child-friendly. They then delivered these games to the nursery classes to be played with.

Each group made three different parachutes of varying size and have made predictions based on their recently learnt knowledge of upthrust. The class then spent the morning working as a team, throwing the parachutes and timing their descent to see which parachute took the longest to fall.

Faith Diary
This Sunday is the First Sunday of Advent, and marks the start of the Church’s new liturgical year. It may be beginning to look a lot like Christmas, but for Christians, this reflective season of Advent comes first, to prepare us for Christmas. Today’s Gospel sets the tone, exhorting us to “Stay awake” because the Son of Man is coming, but all too often, the significance of this Advent season is forgotten. In our rush to get ready for Christmas, we can all too easily lose track of what we are really celebrating and forget that we should be preparing our hearts and minds, as well as our homes and workplaces, for the coming of that little baby boy who was born to save the world. Let us pray this Sunday that we will not lose sight of this bigger picture and be truly ready to welcome him anew into our lives on Christmas day.
