New publication
Childcare Resource and Research Unit is excited to share our new report, A summary of the Canada-Wide Early Learning and Child Care Agreements and Action Plans. This paper provides a summary of selected elements (affordability, expansion, auspice and the workforce) of the Canada-Wide Early Learning and Child Care initiative (CWELCC) introduced in 2021.
National Advisory Council on Early Learning and Child Care
This week, the federal government announced the members of the National Advisory Council on Early Learning and Child Care. The council will advise the federal government on the issues and challenges facing the early learning and child care sector and brings together caregivers, practitioners, academics and advocates. The CRRU team would like to congratulate all 16 members of the Council on their appointment and look forward to building the Canada-wide system together.
National Day of Action
November 30th is the National Day of Action to demand immediate attention into the Canada-wide child care crisis. The main obstacle to expanding licensed child care is a shortage of early childhood educators and other child care staff. It’s a problem that governments must fix urgently: better pay means better quality and better access.
Details about Day of Action activities and events across the country are on the Child Care Now website. You can show your support by signing and sharing Child Care Now’s petition, wearing polka dots on November 30th and using the hashtag #DotsForSpots on social media.
