For the younger children, ages 0 through kindergarten, the Nursery opens from 10 a.m. to 11:30 each Sunday in the white house.

Children in 1st through 5th grades and Young Friends worship with their families (and all of us) from 10 to 10:20 and then go to their classes with their teachers. 

We are still looking for one paid worker and one more volunteer for the Nursery.  Here is the job description for the paid position.  

A View from the Trenches:  Friends' Experience of War

Please join the Continuing Quaker Education Committee on Sunday, December 4 at 12:15pm by Zoom.* as we continue our year-long exploration of the Friends' Peace Testimony.  For this Second Hour, we will leave behind the conceptual talk of peace and hear from Friends who have experienced war first hand.  Panelists will be Mary Ellsberg, Pat Nutter, Jolee Robinson, and Chloe Schwenke.  How did these experiences influence their thinking on the Peace Testimony?  What is their relationship to pacifism now?  We would love to see you -- please stop in!

Next "First" Friday Film Discussion - on December 9

December 9 will be the "honorary first Friday" for our discussion of the film Gather at 7 pm. This film is an intimate portrait of a growing movement among Indigenous Americans to reclaim their spiritual and cultural identities by re-asserting sovereignty over their ancestral food systems, and battling against the historical trauma brought on by centuries of genocide. "Gather" is available on Hoopla (Montgomery County Public Libraries), Kanopy (Prince Georges County and DC Public Libraries), Netflix, I-Tunes, Amazon Prime ($4) and others.  See the trailer here. 

Climate Corner

Adelphi's Climate Action Group recommends that we watch the Quaker Speak video  “Why I Blockaded 40,000 tons of Coal with a Lobster Boat” this week.  (In the all-the-world-is-connected department, Jay O'Hara, who is featured in this video, was an FCNL intern years ago, who dearly wanted to work on environmental issues.)

Couch Potato Activist Alert

Anna Rain brings us the "Couch Potato Activist Alert" for this month. She writes,

"We tumble into the season where our time and our resources are expected to be directed outward:  to those we consider family; to our community, however we might define such; to organizations that do work we support.  

In the spirit of 'Inward work brings outward change,' remember that your time, your energy, your resources are valuable.  Consider spending them wisely, in ways that support what you believe in and in ways that sustain your own spirit and being."

The children and parents of the Afghan family - the Lodins -  our meeting supports are in need of warmer jackets, hats, gloves, and even boots.  The sizes range is from 4T to adult medium.  If you have something to offer that is in very good condition, please email or call Marcy Seitel, via contact info in Breeze.

Please bring your coffee grounds and eggshells to the meetinghouse on any Sunday* for Ruby Steigerwald's ongoing compost project. She will collect them from you after meeting, or you can leave them on the lost and found table downstairs in the fellowship hall. (*Please don't bring anything on Sunday, December 4 - Ruby won't be able to collect them that week.)
