"The rules set forth above entail a substantial degree of positive obligation, meaning that the parties to the conflict are required to take affirmative measures to assist the wounded and sick. It is not sufficient to simply refrain from aggravating their condition...

At the same time, positive obligations are generally governed by a 'best efforts' standard, meaning that each party to the conflict must do its best to provide such care. In light of the above-mentioned rule of non-discrimination, one barometer for assessing a party’s efforts would be the diligence exercised by the party in caring for its own."

Dr. Kimberly Howe is a researcher concerned with the well-being of war-affected populations from a gendered perspective. She has been researching the Syrian civil war since 2013, including the development of Syrian civil society, and how war-affected civilians rely on social connection to adapt and cope with protracted conflict. Dr. Howe is currently an Assistant Research Professor at the Friedman School and a Research Director on Conflict and Governance at the Feinstein International Center at Tufts University. Jayshree Venkatesan (F20) is Research Director at the Center for Financial Inclusion. Jayshree leads research on fintechs, platforms, and other DFS providers to understand their incentives, practices, and how/if they serve low-income consumers... Jayshree joins CFI after working for eight years as an independent global consultant to several partners including CGAP, World Bank, JICA, and ITAD. From 2009 to 2013, she was part of the founding team at IFMR Trust (now Dvara Trust), where she led a mezzanine fund that invested in microfinance institutions in India. Tent is looking for an analytical, proactive, and highly self-sufficient Senior Fellow to lead Tent’s efforts to enlist businesses to bring refugees into remote freelance and full-time positions, including through our partnership with Upwork. The Senior Fellow will report to the Vice President for the Americas & Vice President of Global Strategy and is currently slated for a 1-year duration, with the possibility to grow into a longer-term position at Tent.

The Tent Partnership for Refugees mobilizes the global business community to improve the lives and livelihoods of more than 30 million refugees who have been forcibly displaced from their home countries.
