Hello Lovely Zesties!

I had the chance to go hiking in New Hampshire over the holidays. I hadn't been there for several years and was reminded of the absolute beauty of the landscape. There are, however, others who share my affection for the granite state:

Yup. Those are bear prints top right. Don't worry--my little dog Frankie was there to protect me.

Love my knitting. Note handmade socks. I ended up ripping out a big mistake right after this photo!

How Can I Be Creative, Even if I Can't Draw to Save My Life?

Many women have discovered that after about 40, they get an itch to be creative. We don't need to be making fine art, but just....something that's somewhat artistic. We are programmed as a species to be "makers", after all. But many would-be artists have traumatic memories of the time in school we were chastised because we didn't color the sky blue, or we colored outside of the lines. And we carry that experience with us throughout our lives. That's unfortunate because making stuff has such therapeutic value. Research shows that crafting helps with depression and anxiety. As an avid knitter, I've greatly benefitted from the rhythmic and comforting feeling that comes with knitting. It's soothing and grounding. At times it's been a lifesaver. And that sounds pretty good right now.

Today's interview is with the exuberant Faigie Kobre who is an artist specializing in guiding older women who want to scratch that itch in an accessible way. She's a big fan of alcohol inks. Fun and forgiving, these inks offer endless opportunities for creative play. Here's what they look like:

I've used them myself, and it's easy to get lost in the process. They are vibrant and flow in all kinds of unpredictable ways. The experience of playing is one we don't get to have very often. These kinds of activities refresh the soul. Enjoy! Find out more about Faigie at https://creativityreignited.com/ or  https://eduart4kids.com/ .

And I use Vital Plan. Here's Why:

Dr. Rawls, a two time guest on the show, is the owner of Vital Plan supplements. I was so impressed with the integrity of his work and his products that I use them and endorse them.
