Hi friends! It's been a rough few weeks here, thus a combined November/December issue of The Scrap Basket. Hubby and I caught one of the bugs that was going around, and let's just say it got us down. Things are looking up, though, and we're hoping to catch up in time for the holidays! Hope you and yours are doing well and enjoying the season.
WHAT'S UP
The only quilt finish of late is my Quiltober quilt, following the sew along with Nicholas Ball [@quiltsfromtheattic] all through October. What a fun improv project - both in creating the blocks inspired by Nicholas' prompts, and the puzzling itself. Plus I really enjoyed working with a unique palette.
Just finished, I thought you might enjoy seeing my Hand-Stitched Oven Mitt! It was begun in a workshop with Aaron Sanders Head [@aaronsandershead], and was SO fun to make.
Barbara's gorgeous orange and purple palette in her "Power Struggle" just really packs a punch, doesn't it? Between that and her masterful use of improvisational lines, I keep coming back for another look. [@barbdanzi]
I love everything about Cordelia's "Sailing/Takes Me Away" - the blues, all those elusive half-rectangle triangles(!), and the use of orientation as a design element. And of course the orange strips that demand your attention.

The fun shapes in Karen's "Gotcha" just draw you in, don't they? And the fabric mix feels maybe a bit unexpected, yet truly inpired. Nicely done! [@karenkstone]
Heather's striking "XOXO" really caught my eye! The color gradation and movement between the shapes is really something special.

Another 'new color' for 2023 is Kona's Color of the Year, Crush. I was so surprised to see the Kona COTY choice was also in the red color family, but I like it! I definitely recommend glancing at the feature projects on the Robert Kaufman website to see how the makers have used Crush with other colors.
OFF TOPIC
Speaking of colors, you need to check out Steph Skardal Quilts' Pantone Color Match AND her new app, A Quilty Solid, "a reference tool for sewing with solids."
P.S. Ever feel a little anti-social hanging in the sewing studio as much as you (I) do? Then you'll get a laugh out of Matthew's [@thequiltyarchitect] reel.
