Meditation on Scripture: Mark 6: 50 "No Fear With Christ"

How did the Lord help his disciples in their distress? With these few words: It is I. He did not promise them calm weather, did not yet command the waves to subside and did not promise to speedily bring them to shore. All of this might or might not be -- but they should not have been afraid of anything from the moment when the Lord himself joined them. In this there is a lesson for each of us -- the indication of what precisely we need and what we often forget about. It is not necessary that He free us from everything which we fear, but that He take the fear itself from us. Not that He should calm the storm, but that He Himself come to us amid this storm. This is what we should ask of the Lord; nothing else can help us.
And you, who have seen the shining image of Christ coming to you across the water of your tears and your grief, can you ever forget this? Can you forget that joyful light with which He covered the raging sea in your heart, or how He enchanted you with His radiance? Can you ever forget the bliss of this vision, and did not the wonderous meaning of these words penetrate, at least momentarily, into your soul: “Blessed are they who weep, for they will be comforted” (Matt. 5: 4).
So let us not choose our own fate, because we cannot foresee anything, but let us completely accept the path which the Lord himself has chosen for us. And let us not be afraid! “Do not fear anything which you must suffer“ (Rev: 2:10).

«Это Я, не бойтесь» (Мк. 6:50)
Чем же Господь помог ученикам в их бедствии? Одним этим словом: это Я. Он не обещал им тихой погоды, не повелел еще волнам уняться, не предвещал им и близкой пристани. Все это могло быть или не быть – но они ничего не должны были бояться с той минуты, когда Господь Сам присоединился к ним. В этом кроется поучение для каждого из нас – указание того именно, что нам нужно и о чем мы часто забываем. Не то необходимо, чтобы Он избавил нас от всего, что нас устрашает, но чтобы Он отнял у нас самый страх. Не то, чтобы Он усмирил бурю, но чтобы Он Сам пришел к нам среди этой бури. Вот чего мы должны просить у Господа; ничто другое не может нам помочь.
А вы, которым случалось видеть сияющий образ Христа, приближающийся к вам по водному пути ваших слез и вашей скорби, можете ли вы когда-нибудь это забыть? Можете ли вы забыть о том радостном свете, которым Он облил бушующее море в вашем сердце, или как Он очаровал вас Своим блеском? Можете ли вы когда-нибудь забыть все блаженство этого небесного видения, и не проникло ли тогда, хотя проблеском, в вашу душу удивительное значение слов: «Блаженны плачущие, ибо они утешатся» (Мф. 5:4).
О, не станем сами выбирать нашу судьбу, мы, которые ничего не можем предвидеть, а примем всецело путь, Самим Господом для нас выбранный. И не будем страшиться! «Не бойся ничего, что тебе надобно будет претерпеть» (Откр. 2:10).
