The aims of the ELIXIR Galaxy Community are to grow the European network of Galaxy contributors, trainers and users, and in particular to extend Galaxy training provision.

In 2021, ELIXIR Estonia began working in partnership with our Node. The Estonian ELIXIR Node supported us with crucial testing of the tools and guidelines we developed to support simple data submission from sites such as Estonian hospitals. ELIXIR Estonia acknowledged their appreciation to both our and the German Node,

ELIXIR Europe is all about knowledge exchange and learning from each other. Over the years, we have learned so much from our German and Belgian Galaxy colleagues. Glad we could be of help ourselves this time!

Currently we, along with eleven other ELIXIR Nodes, are collaboratively working on an ELIXIR-funded project to strengthen data management in Galaxy.

The European Genomic Data Infrastructure (GDI) project was launched in Brussels on Thursday 17 November 2022. The project, coordinated by ELIXIR, involves a consortium of partners from 20 European countries and will facilitate a cross-border federated network of national genome collections for biomedical research and personalised medicine.

Building on the preparatory work of the 1+MG initiative and the Beyond 1 Million Genomes (B1MG) project, this federated network will facilitate better healthcare for citizens in Europe by providing researchers with access to over one million genomes and related clinical data.

You can read about ELIXIR Belgium’s contributions on our project’s page.

Scalable indexing system to link COVID-19 data across research disciplines

The BY-COVID project has implemented a scalable indexing system to link data and metadata on SARS-CoV-2 and COVID-19, along with and other infectious diseases and pathogens, across multiple areas of research. If scientific, clinical and socio-economic data are connected in a meaningful way then more powerful and efficient research into BY-COVID can be carried out.

European Research Data Landscape Study

The study looks at researchers’ practices in producing, reusing and depositing data, and in making it FAIR, as well as examining the research data repository landscape. Through two surveys – one of researchers (over 15,000 responses), and the other of research data repositories (over 300 responses) – the study shows that while certain FAIR practices are being adopted, and researchers are motivated by the ideals of Open Science, obstacles still remain to making data FAIR.
