The holiday season has arrived and there is plenty to celebrate and enjoy throughout Peekskill. As we close out 2022 and look ahead to 2023, we have much to look forward to and are thankful to everyone who helped make 2022 a great year for our city.

City of Peekskill Remembers Officer Gregory Jones 

 
It is with great sadness that we share the untimely passing of City of Peekskill Police Officer Gregory Jones, Shield #15. Officer Jones was a twenty-four year veteran who was a School Resource Officer, Community Resource Officer, D.A.R.E. Instructor, and a member of the Community Policing Unit. A pillar of the Peekskill community, Officer Jones will be remembered for his infectious smile, providing a helping hand, and empowering our youth. Please keep in your thoughts and prayers his friends and family, our Police Department, and everyone whose lives were impacted by Officer Jones. 
Employee Spotlight: City Clerk's Office

 
Jeanette Moore is our Deputy City Clerk, starting her role in 2020 during the COVID pandemic. In her role as Deputy Clerk, Jeanette handles all vital documents, is a FOIL officer, prepares resolutions and packets for Council meetings, sells parking permits, issues marriage licenses, issues handicap tags, and also helps City Hall with Spanish translation when necessary. 
 
Jeanette enjoys interacting with the public on a daily basis and looks forward to many more years with the City of Peekskill. During her free time, Jeanette enjoys spending time with her two grandsons and is a lover of all genres of music. 
Community Feedback Survey


                 
As you know, the City of Peekskill is currently applying for a grant to fund a Comprehensive Plan and we need your input! The comprehensive plan is the culmination of a planning process that establishes the official land use policy of a community and presents goals and a vision for the future that guides official decision making. The comprehensive plan invariably includes a thorough analysis of current data showing land development trends and issues, community resources, and public needs for transportation, recreation, and housing. Flag Raising Ceremony
 

A flag raising ceremony was held on Thursday, November 3rd outside City Hall for our sister city Cuenca in celebration of its 202nd anniversary of declaring its independence from Spain. A special thank you to everyone who attended, and we look forward to continuing to support our sister city. 
Veterans Day Ceremony
 

What a wonderful Veterans Day Ceremony we had on Friday, November 11th at Monument Park in honor of our veterans for their service. For those who missed the ceremony, please click here
DRI Public Workshop & Information Session
 

The City of Peekskill held a public workshop and information session on Tuesday, November 15th to discuss improvements to Pugsley and Monument Park as part of the Downtown Revitalization Initiative. For those who missed the session, please click here to view the proposals and click here to watch the discussion. 
Complimentary Holiday Parking
 

The holiday season has arrived! Support our local businesses this season and enjoy complimentary four-hour parking in the Nelson Avenue and James Street parking garages through January 2, 2023.
Ribbon Cutting Highlight
 

A ribbon cutting was held on Tuesday, November 29th to celebrate the renovations and upgrades made to Fort Hill Park. The improvements that were made as part of a state funded grant project included improvements to existing trails, completion of new trails, upgrades to the Decatur Avenue entrance, new staircases and benches, and improved signage. Westchester County Senior Hall of Fame 
 

Congratulations to Peekskill resident Cynthia Anderson on being inducted into the Westchester County Senior Citizens Hall of Fame! Join us in celebrating Cynthia at the 40th Annual Senior Citizens Hall of Fame Awards Celebration, which will be streamed on Friday, December 2nd at 11:30 am on the Westchester Public Private Partnership for Aging Services website
Reindeer Run
 

The Hudson Valley Irish Fest will be holding its 2022 Reindeer Run on Saturday, December 3rd at 9:00 am with registration opening at 8:00 am at the Peekskill Central Firehouse Parking Lot. Come on out and wear your favorite holiday attire while helping local families this holiday season with a donation of new unwrapped toys, winter hats, winter gloves, and/or non-perishable food items. 
Holiday Tree Lighting

                 
Join the City of Peekskill, the Hudson Valley Gateway Chamber of Commerce, and the Peekskill BID for the annual Holiday Tree Lighting Ceremony on Saturday, December 3rd at 4:00 pm at the gazebo located on the corner of Park Street and Division Street. Enjoy a ceremony hosted by WHUD's Kacey Morabito that will feature live performances as well as a special appearance by Santa Claus. 
Peekskill Arts Alliance Holiday Boutique
 

The Peekskill Arts Alliance will be holding a Holiday Boutique on Saturday, December 10th from 11:00 am - 7:00 pm and Sunday, December 11th from 11:00 am - 6:00 pm at The Artists Spot located at 925 South Street. Support our local artists and complete your holiday shopping with items such as jewelry, pottery, photos, small works of art, and more! 
Toy Distribution
 

The Peekskill Youth Bureau, in partnership with Westchester Cars & Coffee, will be holding a toy distribution on Thursday, December 15th at 6:00 pm at 828 Main Street. For more information about the toy distribution for this year, please contact Executive Director Tuesday Paige McDonald at (914) 734-4149 or email tmcdonald@cityofpeekskill.com. 
Youth Winter Basketball
 

The Parks and Recreation Department has opened registration for its Youth Winter Basketball, which will run from January 7th through February 18th. For more information and to register, please contact the Parks and Recreation office at (914) 734-7275.
Boards and Commissions Vacancies


                 
Do you have spare time and would like to help make a difference? Please consider joining one of our Boards and Commissions!

There are currently vacancies for the following: Artist Certification Committee, Board of Tax Assessment Review, Historic Preservation Advisory Commission, Historic & Landmarks Preservation Board, Housing Authority, Human Relations Commission, Industrial Development Agency, and Zoning Board of Appeals.
