Dear <<First Name>>,
We artists make something out of nothing.
We artists re-contextualize the world.
We create movements and microcultures where different people can grow and thrive. We artists strive to make the world a better place.

Supporting art-making right now is especially important.
Because art lives in the gray zone, it is often ambiguous. It embraces a nonbinary world and post-colonial thinking. Most importantly because art is a vehicle to try to understand each other better.

Please, consider supporting Get What You Need residency. This platform evolved from a need to create a community of support. Now in its 8th year, we keep supporting artists in their process of making and engaging with the broader community.
Donate Here
Your donation will support all of the administrative and production costs around the residency for all four mentors - Keila Kordova, Janna Meiring, Kenwyn Samuel and myself, Zornitsa Stoyanova
In addition, each of the chosen artists will receive a stipend for the creation of their performances.

ANNOUNCING:

We are incredibly grateful to all of the artists that applied to GWYN this year. It was the toughest year to make a choice so far.
We are excited to support Katie Mills-Yatsko as a new mom, making a performance related to the book "The Sound of a Wild Snail Eating" by Elizabeth Tova Bailey. She is inspired by snails and their lifestyle/habits, as well as, how their daily routines reflect and contradict ours.
Lu Donovan will work on a performance utilizing dance and sculpture that explores a bodily and cultural softening of masculinity. They will work with the relationship between movement and clothing design to investigate the possibilities of shifting the shame masculine people often feel around gentleness in their gender.
Donate to support Katie and Lu HERE.

THIS YEAR WE CRAWLED OUT OF THE ASHES

Zornitsa Stoyanova with a new piece called "Window to Another Place" earlier this month at a Leap Off festival in Veliko Turnovo, Bulgaria.
As the year comes to an end, I realize it has been a time of rebirth - crawling out of the ashes of destruction and death to find that there is still space for joy, there is still recognition of community, friendship, and beauty among us humans.
At age 40, for the first time, I went on tour as a performer and loved every second of it.

This year I feel more ready to jump head first into joy, to train myself to seize the day, and most importantly to agree to disagree with loved ones. In the current cancel culture, I choose to notice and let go, to inform my decisions and befriend people different than me, to feel compassion for the misinformed, and give space for everyone to make their own choices... even if I think these choices are bad.

I'm sharing with you a couple of photos from the past few months of performing and creating.
