As an added incentive, eligible faculty may receive up to $1000 for their professional development. Led by Anna Michelle Martinez-Montavon and Stacie Merken. Meetings will be held on the afternoons of Jan. 27, Feb. 10, Mar. 10, Apr. 7, and Apr. 28.

Creative Grading Toolbox Institute

Can grading be fun? Yes! Expand your toolbox of grading techniques in this institute. Also, a chance to find out from colleagues what works for them. This is being co-led by the UCET Assistant Director, Jay VanderVeen and Cati Hebert-Annis. Meetings will be held on the mornings of Jan. 27, Feb. 10, Mar. 10, and Apr. 14, with a showcase on Apr. 28.

Teaching for Student Success Institute - Active Learning

Join your colleagues in working through the Teaching for Student Success Active Learning Modules. Building on what we've learned through efforts like IU's Mosaic Initiative, the active learning modules address day-to-day practices that help both instructors and students engage meaningfully in active learning classrooms. These modules cover a variety of contexts, from simple active learning strategies focused on reading, note-taking, and information literacy to high-impact educational practices and extensive collaborative projects. This online institute is being led by the UCET Assistant Director, Jay VanderVeen.

Spring Book Groups

Email ucet@iusb.edu if you are interested in joining any of the following book groups. Meeting schedule will be determined by participants.

Distracted: Why Students Can't Focus and What You Can Do About It

Led by AJ Schmitz. In Distracted, Lang rethinks the practice of teaching, revealing how educators can structure their classrooms less as distraction-free zones and more as environments where they can actively cultivate their students' attention.

Relationship-Rich Education: How Human Connections Drive Success in College

Led by Cati Hebert-Annis. What single factor makes for an excellent college education? As it turns out, it's pretty simple: human relationships. In Relationship-Rich Education, Felten and Lambert demonstrate that for relationships to be central in undergraduate education, colleges and universities do not require immense resources, privileged students, or specially qualified faculty and staff.

The Peak Performing Professor: A Practical Guide to Productivity and Happiness

Led by Carolyn Schult. Feeling stressed and overcommitted? This book group will help you focus your goals and find balance in your life. The Peak Performing Professor is filled with techniques, strategies, and practical tools for managing the complexities of academic life while maximizing professional potential.

Teaching with Technologies Faculty Showcase (TTFS): Engaging Students to Build a Learning Community Using InScribe

When: Monday, December 12, 2022 11 a.m. - 12 noon EST
Where: Online – Zoom

Are you interested in building a learning community in your class by encouraging students to ask one another for help? Are you also interested in reducing email, while ensuring that all your students have access to the questions posed by their peers and the answers to these questions? InScribe might be the tool for you. Students can post their questions, including anonymously, and answer one another’s questions. You and your teaching team can endorse their answers and include clarifications as needed. This saves you time and gives students access to answers any time day or night, while your endorsement of answers builds student confidence knowing that the answers have been vetted. Hear from three instructors who are using InScribe in very different class types: in format (in-person, asynchronous, and flipped), in class size (ranging from 20-350), and in student type (undergraduate, graduate, and medical school). The presenters will share why and how they are using InScribe, any challenges they and their students faced, and tips for using this tool in your classes.
