We hope you’ve had a wonderful holiday with family and loved ones. During this special time of the year, we want to express our deepest appreciation for your support. At Poligon, we work tirelessly to amplify the voices of Muslim and ally communities in Congress on issues impacting our daily lives and the most sacred rights with direct advocacy on the Hill and by training community leaders. Our work would not be possible without your generosity and compassion.
Particularly, I want to highlight our former Legislative Fellow, Ruwa Romman, who recently made history as the first Muslim and Palestinian woman elected to Georgia’s state House of Representatives. Ruwa joined Poligon in 2019 as a Legislative Fellow. During her time with us, Ruwa led advocacy trainings, prepared our “Hill Happenings” newsletter, provided legislative updates on social media, and worked in coalition to draft the NO BAN Act opposing the Muslim travel ban.
As a resident of Georgia, a Muslim mother, and an immigrant, I am incredibly proud of Ruwa, who defied the odds and became an advocate and an inspirational leader. Like her, I also arrived in the U.S. at eight years old and barely spoke English. For me, her victory represents the progress of minorities breaking barriers and an inevitable progressive change in America’s politics. I see myself in her. For many Muslim Americans, her victory is our victory. I am also proud of the other three Muslim elected officials in my state. From local districts to Congress, our growing representation is a result of our collective power, which is what Poligon has helped forge for the past 5 years.
This giving season, I ask that you continue to support our efforts in building leaders. From empowering staff and fellows to spearheading legislative advocacy campaigns, to offering community training, and providing policy resources, Poligon puts in the labor and commitment to ensure that American Muslims are heard on Capitol Hill and everywhere else.
